Vehicle Detail

Here's an opportunity to own a stunning Austin Healey in the right color with new chrome wire wheels, new tires, and the rare two seat configuration. If you are new to Healeys, a far greater number of cars are out there with a 2+2 configuration, and these BN two seaters always command a higher price, and with good reason, since two seats just seem right for a car this sleek and stunning. This particular example was upgraded with disk brakes and rebuilt engine from a 1961 BT7 3000 mark1, so we have a horsepower and braking improvement over the stock 100/6. Oil pressure is excellent, power is excellent, and there is no smoke. The engines are the same size externally, so the engine upgrade is easy, and hard to detect, except for a noticeable increase in power. Carbs and manifold are from the later car too, which is a nice improvement. Disks are also new, and vented. So in this package you have a more powerful 2 seat 100/6 with better brakes and a bigger engine. Transmission is excellent, with a working overdrive unit. You'll see how nicely the car drives in the video below: Paint is excellent. There is no rust. We cut out the drivers side front outrigger and welded in a new one we got from England, so the underside is solid and ready to go. Floors are excellent. Interior features restored seats and new top and tonneau. Top is missing the front latches, which you will need to secure it to the windshield frame, but the top is fit to the car, and that's the hard part. If you want a really striking car at a very reasonable reserve, you'll click for this Big Healey, and make a big impression this summer. This is a really shiny and nice driver. It's not perfect, but then again it's priced well below the level you so often see for big Healeys. This is a car you can just stare at forever. The shape is pure sculpture. The exhaust note is pure symphony. Good luck bidding! We restore british cars and ship them worldwide, so we can ship this car anywhere. Sold as is, with clear title, and all the papers needed to register anywhere in the world. We have perfect feedback because we care about our customers and our cars! I'll post a link for more pictures shortly... This car is listed on my website and I reserve the right to end the auction early, but under no circumstances will I end the auction within 24 hours of the end of auction. Call 203 561 6929 with questions! On May-08-13 at 18:15:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks for all the interest in this car! Got this question via email today, and wanted to post my response to make sure everyone could be included in this conversation: “Dear 1bugeyeguy, Bugeyeguy, always enjoyed your auctions, would’nt want you to loose your good reputation, bn6 2 seater cars don’t have bn 4 vin plates . Nor do they have 12 volt batteries in boot. It appears someone put a 2 seater rear shroud on a bt7 and is now pawning it off as a bn6 model. There are so many things un bn6ish I thought in the event someone duped you I,d bring these things to your attention so as to avoid any issues for you down the line. Blessings to you and yours. Cheers Jim” Thanks for your note, Jim, and I never cease to be amazed by how much there is to learn about the quirks of the big healey production changes through the years and their nomenclature. I bought this car because it’s was a beautiful big Healey for a very reasonable price. I learned more this week about this particular car then I when I bought it, but I don’t feel “duped” and the fact remains, I fell in love with the great finish and new chrome wheels and plump tires, and the two seaters just look right to me. So we end up at the same place... if you want a stunning piece of the Healey mystique for a lot less than the market, here’s a great car. If you want a numbers matching car, this one is not for you. This is a fascinating discussion for me, and there is something for everyone in classic car world. For example, I just bought a 30k miles original BJ8 3000 mkIII from the original owner. He told me stories about buying the car new and taking it skiing in the 60s! Great car, great story. That one will probably sell for somewhere in the 30s as is, because it runs and drives and is completely correct and original, but will probably next get another $30k (or more !)invested in restoration of the paint, wheels, engine bay and interior. So for more money than this handsome green car, someone will have a weathered car that doesn’t look particularly impressive (but is really special). That customer is totally different than the customer for the car in this auction... this is car that has all the Healey flash of a $50k + car for a whole lot less money. I sold a BN1 a few years ago with some lemans kit items on it to a great guy in Florida who showed it in seven good-sized people’s choice shows and won six impressive trophies, besting several multi -million dollar Ferraris along the way. Like this car here, his BN1 is not “correct” (and the owner knows this) but it is so striking, everyone always votes for it. (and he paid significantly more than the price of this one). The fact that his BN1 is not a real 100M and not even in a color ever offered on big Healeys hasn’t diminished his enjoyment of his car one bit! After selling about 100 cool British cars to BOTH numbers matching hard-core collectors AND everyday drivers who just want a cool ride for the summer, they are all good, and all have value. If you are bidding on this one, you have a chance to own something that looks every bit the part even if it isn’t exactly “correct.” So, here we have a really cool Green two-seat Healey for sale, with clear title. I do not believe the choices the restorer made (who put it together) were made to deceive, but were more likely based on parts that he had, and issues his project needed, and his personal preference. I bought this car and made it better, by welding in a new outrigger, undeneath and tuning the SU carburettors and a few other mechanical improvements so that someone new can enjoy it. The result is a car that impresses. If you are reading this and are looking to roar around in a big Healey this summer, here’s one for you. Thanks Jim for bringing this to my attention! If anyone unfamiliar is watching this auction is interested in a great book about Big Healeys, check out “Original Austin-Healey: The Restorer's Guide to 100, 100-Six and 3000” by Clausiger. But fair warning, at one point the author is describing the numbering system and says, “confused? you should be!” Thanks for participating in the discussion and thanks to all the bidders (and the nearly 100 watchers)!
