This beautiful bay-window Single Cab has spent most of its life in southern California where it was first purchased at Cotton Goff VW in Buena Park (Orange County) California on June 14, 1969. The original CA blue & yellow license plates and owner's manual are included with sale.I purchased it in 2009, and used it as a local delivery vehicle for our business in Florida. It's now in retirement here in New Mexico. Mechanically, the engine starts quickly and drives very strong, steering is tight and straight, suspension is firm. Cylinder Compression: #1=140psi, #2=145psi, #3=150psi, #4=148psi. The drive train was thoroughly gone through within the last 2k miles with new brakes, 4-ball joints, 4-shocks and full engine tune-up. The Hankook LT tires are like new and have less than 4k miles on them. The body is virtually rust free, with only minor surface rust beneath the driver's floor mat and corrosion from the battery in the right-rear corner of engine compartment. The drop-down sides and tail gate work perfectly as do the dual treasure-chest doors. The new chrome bumpers nicely match the fine condition of the chrome mirrors, headlight trim rings and VW emblem. Interior is clean and in excellent condition given its age (see photos). The heater boxes are solid and provide plenty of heat to the cab as they should. This is the one of the finest daily-driver Single Cabs you will ever encounter. It has only 71,032 original miles on it and it's clear that it has always been well maintained and cared for. It would be a short step to complete a full restoration, if so desired, but I've always preferred the comfort of owning classic vehicles that can be driven without fear of depreciating the restoration. I am more than happy to answer any of your questions about this Single Cab, just ask. Answers to a few questions people have asked: •The exterior was repainted in CA a few years before I purchased it in 2009. Paint quality is very good (but not frame-off restoration quality) and is a close match to the original VW Lotus White. Cab interior and treasure-chest are original paint in good condition. •The original tool kit and jack are in the vehicle. The jack bag is missing and the tool kit is missing pliers and the open-end wrench. •The radio is original (AM only) works, but has poor reception. •The original key is still being used for doors and treasure-chest hatch locksets. The ignition has been replaced and uses a different key. •The engine is a vintage correct B5 1600cc SP, but I can't verify that it's original to the vehicle. EIN is B5540 B-481523.
