Vehicle Detail

This is a 911 project car, which needs paint as seen in the photos. The "shell" was painted with all the glass removed, and is finished. The doors, bumpers, lids have been treated on the undersides with POR 15 rust treatment, and need the visual surfaces painted to match the rest of the car. The rear license plate panel is alloy. The intent of the car is to look like an early 911 (door handles, mirrors, headlights etc.), with updated mechanicals. The following are essentially new: Proper headlights, BT seats (one has a small tear on the base on the lower outside near the rail), headliner, big front sway bar (no rear bar), windshield, factory seals for the front and rear windows. The engine is a 3.0 from an SC, with Webers, early heat exchangers, and muffler, MSD, Fuel King pressure regulator, Holley fuel pump in the secret compartment in the front near the fuel tank. The transmission is a '74 915 with the "better" ring and pinion, with a 915 shift lever, alloy clutch (as I remember?), and the 4 bolt halfshafts. Front brakes are the alloy S ones, rear are the regular small ones that came on the car. Front struts are from an SC. There is a welded-in strut brace between the front strut towers. Rust is superficial on the doors, and fenders, and should clean up during painting. The tow hook is solid, as are the jacking points. The rally lights come with 2 sets of covers. The wheels are the early Fuchs 6 x 15, with Kumho 205/55 tires all new, 3 match since one was ruined by the tire shop and it was replaced with another at their expense as the original tire (1 Ecsta RSX and 3 Ecsta Supra) was not available. The anodizing on the wheels (the black part) is weathered, so is painted satin black. The headliner was installed and no passenger sun visor holes were made (the visor is included) and the interior lights were removed. Rubber mats are on the floor, the carpet and driver's door seal are bad, the rear seats are worn but there. The car runs strong I would say, shifts well, brakes well, steers well (but should be aligned I used strings and a toe gauge, and should be really gone through before any long trips, unless you are brave. The wiring was missing in places, so has been fixed, all the lights, wipers, heater fan, etc work. The rear glass is clear ( no heating element), but the switch is retained, and runs the fuel pump.On Apr-28-13 at 14:55:39 PDT, seller added the following information: Note: the fuel gauge doesn't match the sender, so the gauge reads 1/2 full when it's full. I set the odometer and go by that. Also the seats are BF Torino, not BT (typo), and the cardboard shows how much oil the car leaks after a long run sitting overnight (it's engine oil, not transmission, and comes from the front part of the engine...towards the front of the car). Fuel tank was boiled and coated inside at a radiator shop, and Stabil has always been used over the winter when the car sat. On Apr-30-13 at 06:51:46 PDT, seller added the following information: Hello to all. Lots of folks are concerned about the condition of the floor area rust-wise, so here are some pictures of the underside of the car. Note the "bellypan" is missing. Also the ball joints are new. Some potential buyers have voiced a desire to drive the car "home". I must say again, you would be best to have it shipped so you can sort it out in your garage, not in the middle of the Nevada desert or on the San Diego freeway! Since the green paint is urethane and the rest of the car needs painting anyway, it could certainly be send "open" rather than in an enclosed carrier. Of course you may do whatever you want, just my thoughts. I didn't mention either the battery is only a few years old, and is wired through a Bosch cut-off switch mounted under the dash near the glovebox. It's the kind you see alot on the race cars, namely the one with the silver "L" you can remove, if that makes any sense. Thanks to all for your interest, please post any questions through eBay and I will do my best to answer them. On Apr-30-13 at 13:06:30 PDT, seller added the following information: A sad day, the car went on its final drive with me today. It will remain in its sanitized cocoon of a garage until the next owner takes over. I took it to the gas station and filled it up, reset the odometer, watched the fuel gauge go to just over 1/4, said a few cuss words and took off. We drove for 13 miles, uphill and down (letting the vacuum build up on the downhill and then gunning it, hoping not to see smoke out the back window...wasn't any as far as I could tell). got it up to 80 a couple times, seemed pretty good actually, did some hard stops from about 60 with no drama, a little sputtering in the first few miles, but by the end pulling strong, with some minor backfires out the exhaust on deceleration, about the right number to be enjoyable. It was so loud I felt like I was as they say "sitting next to a speaker at a Who concert", but I should regain my hearing (what's left of it) in a day or too. Cornered pretty good too, I think I burned the eyes of a tailgater with the rich exhaust fumes, serves him right. The car will be missed by me and its older brother (see the last picture), but it needs the TLC I am getting too old to provide. On May-03-13 at 10:00:16 PDT, seller added the following information: If anybody cares, regarding the badges: Brett Johnson's book says that 911 cars had the script in a gold, whereas the 912 had it in silver, same with the 911 badge. In '67 or so the PORSCHE letters became individual, so the script must be from '66 or earlier. Plus it looks like in '67 the 912 badge changed to being mounted up near the grille so this one is from an early 912. Both badges are silver, so he says they're 912. The door handles and both mirrors are from earlier cars too. I am no expert on any of that. Plus, the hood badge is newer, so it's not worth a mint. Thanks.
