Have you had that dream? The one where you are behind the wheel of the most legendary sports sedan ever built and you're on that special road that you've scoped out and only you know its whereabouts. One that is tree lined with pavement smooth as glass. The one where you're the only car on the road and you'll be able to revel in the sound of the exhaust note from the greatest sports sedan ever built. The one where you grip the thick leather wrapped steering wheel, which cumunicates every little groove in the road and aims the car perfectly at the apex of those turns every time. The one where you execute the perfectly timed downshift with your hand placing the lighted shift knob with that special M logo into second gear. You know that dream. You've been having it for years. You've read reviews. You've researched it. You've tirelessly browsed internet listings and maybe it's been slightly out of your reach. You kept your patience and held out hope that someday you will be able to fulfill the dream. The time is NOW! Its here, an affordable adult owned and well taken care of E39 M5. You deserve it! Use that tax refund to finally make your dream come true! Enjoy this 2000 E39 M5 in your stable. From the motherland it came loaded with factory equipment. Of course we must start with the S62 equipped 394HP and 368lb-ft of torque beauty of a V-8 engine with a 7000RPM redline! The engine comes to life with Double-VANOS, which varies the intake and exhaust valves timings for both cylinder banks, and incorporates individual throttle butterflies for each of the cylinders, allowing for a much faster engine response time. Mated to the engine is the exquisite Getrag 6-Speed Manual transmission. Out the back is the phenomenal sounding quad-tipped exhaust. Keeping this car planted on the road is the well damped, BMW M-Group engineered suspension. Hauling down the car to prepare for those apexes are massive 345mm front and 328mm rear brakes equipped with ABS. Covering the brakes are the beautiful and light 18-inch M Parallel Spoke Alloy wheels. Wrapping those wheels are new tires with approximately 90% tread left. The Carbon Black Metallic (Dark Blue/Black) paint exterior of the car is accentuated with the subtle factory lip spoiler covering the trunklid to a very generously-sized trunk which houses the battery for better weight distribution. There are a few small sized dents in some of the panels, but as you can see in the images these are tough to spot. As can be seen from the photos, the body looks fantastic for a 14 year old car. Even the various minor scratches/scuffs are tough to spot. The wheels still look great even with the minor curb rash. This must be due to the meticulous care of the car with Meguiars products. It may be challenging to spot, but the driver's side fog lamp dislodged from its housing and it is now resting within an enclosed space within the bumper, just behind where it normally is. It appears that it simply needs to be retrieved and screwed back into place. In the trunk you'll find the DVD drive for the navigation system. Additionally, you will also find the factory 6-disk CD changer which has been temporarily disconnected to allow use for a professionally installed iPod/iPhone connector which charges and integrates the iPod/iPhone into the premium multi-speaker sound system therefore allowing you to play your songs through the car's perfectly tuned sound system. You can even use the conveniently placed steering wheel buttons to control volume and which track from your iPod/iPhone to play. While it works with many iPods/iPhones, I encourage you to check compatibility in person. Open the door and head on into the inside of the cockpit. Slide yourself into the leather multi-way powered seat, and you'll be wrapped with a wonderfully aged leather interior with a patina to visually enjoy. Leather is virtually everywhere in this interior. From the black with gray insert seats to the black leather covered dashboard and glovebox, the luxury will surround you. Close the door and your ears will be treated to the bank vault-like solid thud upon closing. Grab that thick steering wheel and start her up. While the Check Engine light is on, these cars are known to complain via that light. When driving the car, you feel all of its power and wonder why that light was on anyway since performance doesn't seem to be affected. The Brake, ABS and Traction Control lights also are on which could be due to a faulty brake sensor that was diagnosed previously by a mechanic in one of the wheels. With the way those massive brakes haul down the car, you begin to wonder why those lights are on too. Take that illuminated shift knob and slide that lever which controls the fantastic 6-speed gearbox into 1st gear and your on your way to driving bliss. While everything feels great when driving, there are some moments when the front passenger side wheel/suspension makes some noise, but again it doesn't seem to affect performance. And while the driving performance is simply unbelievable, it may be challenging to have any liquids in the car since the front cupholders are not operating properly. When looking out of the windshield and onto that beautifully sculpted hood with the BMW roundel sitting atop it, you may notice the approximately half inch diameter star shaped rock chip which has a slight hairline crack that extends approximately seven inches. The naughty construction vehicle which dropped this small rock on the highway caused this small bruise years ago and since it hasn't grown since that event, it is likely not a concern. While inside you'll be able to enjoy the environment on a bright sunny day with comfort due to the windows being tinted. While BMW got all the important things right, they did seem to have some slight trouble with window regulators. The two window regulators in the rear are not functioning and since the air conditioning works so well, it was decided to temporarily keep those windows closed through mechanical means from within the door panel and disconnect the power going to those window motors. Therefore the rear windows are in the closed position and are currently inoperable. The front drivers side window's regulator is nearing the end of its useful life and it is recommended to not roll the window down because it has difficulty on its way back up. The front passenger side window still functions properly. Slide back the sliding shade which blocks the sun for the beautiful leak free sunroof and take in the extra light to put a smile on your face. While that shade operates well, the sunroof's sliding/tilting mechanism is not functioning properly and it is recommended to not attempt to open it since it will likely not open correctly and likely not be able to close. Over in the backseat, there is lots of space for your passengers. They'll be riding in comfort with their own air conditioning/heating vent which they can control the temperature of. They too will be have to go without cupholders since it developed a crack and had to be removed. The fold-down center arm-rest houses a ski bag so that you may transport skis without needing a ski rack or getting the interior dirty. The 60/40 split rear-folding seats allows you to transport larger items, significantly increasing the usefulness of this car for when your wife wishes to go get some gardening supplies. Over in the engine compartment, pop open the hood and you'll revel in the beauty of the unmodified 5 liter V-8 which has the M logo gleaming from its engine cover. Everything was well thought out by the bavarian engineers. And while there are minor power steering and coolant leaks, keeping them at their proper levels should allow you to continue enjoying the performance. A cap to the washer fluid reservoir magically disappeared after a trip for routine service. I'm sure that cap is in a good place though now in missing car piece heaven. I feel that I have done my best to describe to you what a great car this is and accurately explain the condition it is in. The car is daily drivable even with the mentioned anomalies. Please understand that this is a 14 year old car with 215k miles on it. It was well taken care of, but it would be unreasonable to believe that there wouldn't be some signs of normal wear and tear that I may not have described. As you may have been able to tell by the photos, I am a professional photographer; but just because I have stayed in a Holiday Inn on previous occasions, it doesn't mean that I am a mechanic and hence I have described the condition of the car to the best of my abilities using the knowledge of the car I have through the way I have used it. Therefore, please realize that the car is being sold as-is with no warranty and no guarantee of any kind. I will provide a passing smog certificate for California, which was performed earlier this month. There will be a non-refundable $1000 deposit due within 24 hours of auction's close.
