I discovered this rare 1986 Suzuki Samurai Tin Top in Blackfoot, Idaho. The son of the original owner owned it. The odometer shows only 99501 miles and is original. This is very rare for any vehicle 27 years old! It has lived in the southern dessert of Idaho all its life and has NO RUST . The paint shows its years of Idaho sunshine and has a very nice faded patina. To some it would need re-painting, but I like the originality and by not repainting the car it will save the next owner money!
I brought the Samurai back to our mechanic for a complete a comprehensive service. The following was done:
1) Replace the brake equalizer valve, flush brake fluid and check the brakes which are new
2) Replace the muffler and tail pipe
3) Replace fan belt
4) Replace distributor o-ring
5) Check gear oil in front and rear differentials
6) Adjust idle
7) Change oil and filter
8) Inspect timing belt and water pump- new
9) Mount 5 new Firestone “Winterforce” tires and balance
Next the Tin Top was brought to our shop for cosmetics. The following was completed:
1) All three seats were taken to our upholstery expert, Mr. John Gonzales who rebuilt and recovered the seats in Marine grade automotive vinyl.
2) We build our own door panels and wheel well panels in house and they are better than the factory ones. We use heavier backing board with foam headliner material for better sound deading and cover with marine grade vinyl.
3) The old headliner was replaced with a new one
4) The windshield and gasket were replaced
5) We replaced the sun-cracked sun visors with good used originals
6) Brake and clutch pedal pads were replaced
7) Driver door wind lace was replaced and window regulators were cleaned and lubed
8) Replaced rear seat grab handles
9) Sanded and repainted front and rear bumpers and all 5 wheels
10) Removed original carpets and cleaned
11) Cleaned and detailed the entire vehicle stem to stern and top to bottom.
This Samurai Tin Top runs as new! It shifts thru all 5 gears and reverse up and down perfectly. The brakes stop you on a dime and the peppy little 1.3 liter 4 cylinder makes plenty of power. It will cruise down the highway all day long at 65 miles per hour, climb the 10% grades up Teton Pass at 35 miles per hour in third gear and CLIMB HILLS LIKE A MOUNTAIN GOAT IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE! Everything works on this Samurai as it should. No Excuses, No Surprises! Please look at all 100 photos. They tell the story. If you are looking for a “Trailer Queen” Samurai, this is not the one for you. It has its bumps and bruises. But if you are looking for a Samurai that needs nothing but for you to drive and enjoy it ON ROAD OR OFF ROAD this is for you!
