Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on one 1978 FIAT 124 SPIDER. 61K ORIGINAL MILES. Very nice condition. Clean NC title. I have the windshield wipers, they will be installed before auction end. They work fine. I also have trunk boards and trunk mat, and yes I have the things you need to secure the tonneau top cover, they are wide plastic pieces, two of them. I do not have the tonneau cover though. The previous owner did an interior and exterior restoration some years ago which has held up quite well. Runs and drives great, (SEE VIDEO). ALL ELECTRICAL WORKING...even the clock! Was parked under a carport for most of it's life so very little to no rust. One isolated spot beside the outer passenger seat rail, but still solid. All the normal trouble spots on this car are solid....Jack Points, Shock Towers, Driveshaft Support, Floors, Spare Tire Well, all solid as can be. A very well preserved example. Suspension has normal surface rust that one can expect from a "partially" covered car. Originally blue, resprayed to a pretty good standard...8 out of 10. Door jambs, trunk, etc.. all done properly. The engine compartment was the only area not resprayed at the time. Paint has held up very well, I have not even waxed it and it shines very well. The hood has some fading from the sun hitting the front end for many years as the front was exposed to sunlight due to orientation of the carport the previous owner used to park it under. This would be an easy fix. Here are the details. TONS OF PHOTOS AND VIDEO AT PHOTOBUCKET LINK AT BOTTOM OF LISTING. ENGINE: Compression is 130 across the board. The battery was a little weak at the time of testing, so I expect the numbers should be actually a little higher. Nevertheless, compression is equal in all cylinders. Yes, the distributor is turned 180 degrees from normal, but I guess someone put it back in this way at some point, but it runs just fine, etc... No visible leaks, cranks up great and is the quietest 124 I think I have ever heard, runs very smooth!!! Carburetor just rebuilt. Smog pump setup has been disconnected and blocked off as well as related emission lines. Timing belt is nice and pliable and I just adjusted the tension to factory specs. New radiator cap. The thermostat has been bypassed at some point as you can see in photos. Engine runs at correct temperature, auxiliary fan comes on around 195 like it should. Electric aftermarket fuel pump. TRANSMISSION: 5 Speed. Shifts very well, clutch feels great, no issues. CHASSIS: Very solid. No issues. Normal surface rust on suspension. There is a spot at the outer edge of the passenger floor that needs some attention. It is about 1/2" wide and about 12" long. One other very small spot behind outer driver seat rail about the size of a dime. See photos. Other than that, the car is completely solid underneath. Brakes work well, the front passenger is a little sticky from time to time, so maybe a rebuild or new caliper. Easy fix, three bolts. Less than an hour. Steering is a little stiff when sitting still, I suspect the ball joints are a little dry, but once moving the steering feels great. With front end off the ground, the steering has no binding, etc...feels nice. Tires are Sunny Power Touring 155/80-13 with tons of tread. Original alloy SPEEDLINE wheels in good shape. No curb rash. Straight and true as an arrow, no hops. INTERIOR: Very, very nice. No issues. Passenger door panel has a little sagging at the bottom. New carpet kit. The dash has two cracks right in the middle top near the defrost vents. This is pretty normal for these but it's the best dash I have seen regardless.....in awhile. I do have a plastic dash cover that comes with it. I don't like them so I removed it, but it can be easily re-installed if you want the dash perfect. ELECTRICAL: All electrical working, even the clock! EXTERIOR: No dents, dings, etc... Paint is holding up VERY well. There are two small spots of surface rust at top of panel in front of trunk. See photos. Each spot is very small. Top is in GREAT shape as well as plastic window, NO LEAKS. The bumpers have some surface rust on them on the lower portions that could be cleaned off easily. The windshield has a chip repair that was done at some point. You can see it in the video. It's small and was done correctly. What would I do: It's great just the way it is. Basically just get the hood repainted and you have a very beautiful nice fun daily driver. OK, here is the stuff I have to state because of all the idiots of the world...
