2001 Ford Taurus Mechanic specialCar runs and drives, sometimes it is hard to start but it does start up run and drive. I have driven this car up to 55mph, it runs up good, drives well, shifts smooth goes straight, doesn't feel like its going to fall apart. The problem, the car is very difficult to start, it takes a bit of cranking before it will actually fire up. Once it does fire it idles rough and at very low rpm between 400-500. Once you get it started you can give it some throttle to clear it out and then it seems to idle much smoother, the higher the rpm the smoother it runs. There are no check engine lights on. The car also smokes quite a bit when it idles. I have had a mechanic take a look at it and his statement was somewhat basically this.........I scanned the car there are no active codes, some have been recently cleared but that was a misfire And the car has new plugs and wires so that's probably why. It shows that the o2 monitors are not set so they are probably stuck open dumping tons of gas into the the cylinders and that is why it is hard to start and running very rough at idle and smoother with higher rpm, it's just getting way to much fuel flooding itself out. I cant promise that's the issue for sure without tearing into it and getting deeper. That is the end of my gist of the mechanic statement, also the power steering pump will need repair or replacement, it leaks fluid nearly as fast as you put it is. It does function with fluid but has a severe leak. Ok so with that said, I am not promising or guaranteeing that this is the issue either. Someone else that wants to dig into this please go ahead. You are buying this as is where is how is. No guarantee no promises no warranty no anything. I would recommend trailering or towing this car any lengthy distance. I'd probably drive it 20 or 30 miles and be ok but I certainly would drive it cross country until its repaired. Again I have driven this car on multiple occasions and taken up to 50plus mph and it seems ok but that was just local around here. Please look at the pictures closely, there is rust above the rear wheels, there are dents all over the car, there are scratches and chips in the paint. There is also rust on the bottoms of the doors. There are areas where it has rusted all the way through the metal. This car does run and drive but is considered to be in poor condition and should not be expected or anticipated that this is anything other than that.
