Vehicle Detail
1987 Toyota corolla FX16 GT-S RARE 4AGE engine, like new! This is an all original and very rare '87 Corolla FX16 in the hard to find GT-S trim with full ground effects. The car was sold in NY but has spent most of it's life in Florida and is nearly like new inside and out. I purchased it from an elderly gentleman whom told me it was very fast but had a bad head gasket. I found that there was some coolant in # 4 cylinder and although the car would run we disassembled the head for inspection. I had the head shipped to a shop that was familiar with the 4AGE engine as the local shops here in FL were not inclined to shim the lifters properly and I wanted the work done by a competent shop. All-Cape Machine welded some of the areas of concern then did a complete valve job and some minor porting and polishing as well; for $900. The engine and factory automatic transmission is still installed; I found some minor pitting in #4 cylinder as well, likely from coolant sitting in the cylinder. I subsequently decided that the car needed a manual transmission and located a complete but very rusty FX here in Tampa. I removed every part required to convert the car to a manual, including the speedometer cable, shifter, console, clutch hydraulics, both pedals, engine X members, CV shafts as well as the manual transmission with the existing clutch, flywheel and pressure plate. The very same day I also located an '88 MR2 which had crashed; and purchased an additional 4AGE engine and second manual transmission along with the complete wiring and ECU. This engine is also included in the sale. Let me be clear, you are purchasing an INOPERABLE VEHICLE. This is an outstanding opportunity for a Corolla enthusiast. The short block will need rebuilding, though there are two complete engines here in the package which includes the completely rebuilt head. As noted, there are also two manual transmissions included, and the only difference I see is that the MR2 unit has the shift fork mounted opposite, otherwise they are identical transmissions. I also have an OEM shop manual which details all FWD Corollas regardless of trim level. The car itself is in beautiful condition. The only item which is not original is the Sony CD radio, and is otherwise completely stock. The exterior finish is lightly faded from sun but will shine easily if polished. There is no rust anywhere on the car, and there are no dings, dents or scratches. The car has it's correct FX steel wheels with hubcaps and trim rings along with period correct Goodyear Eagle GT tires. Most of the rubber hoses were replaced by the previous owner and all have Toyota stickers on them, the car is outstanding in all areas and you will not be disappointed with this rare Corolla. The interior is in perfect condition throughout, including the rare racing buckets which are fully adjustable for elevation. The car has all GT-S features including the rear disc brakes and pictured strut tower brace. These rare and unique Corollas were assembled in California by the GM NUMMI plant where Geo cars were built under the supervision of Japanese Toyota engineers and are increasing in value, don't miss this great original car! I have too many projects and not enough time as my shop has a full schedule every day. I want to see this car go to someone who will appreciate it, everything is here to build an original 4AGE 5 speed GT-S. The car is for sale locally also and the auction may end without notice. Call me at 941-830-3137 if you have any questions. I will gladly assist with packaging of the extra engine and two manual transmissions which can be palletized and shipped with the vehicle or via motor carrier. My email is: gasparillagarage@aol.com On Mar-30-13 at 19:09:21 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had several inquiries regarding the condition of the car. I did a complete walk around today and found only a few minor areas of concern. The only rust worth mentioning is a few minor blemishes on the hatch near the license lamps, some light surface rust in the door pillars under the gutters and one blemish on the outside of the windshield frame. I am from New England and am very familiar with rusty cars; most of the cars from Massachusetts from this era have been completely consumed by the rust. This car is a fine example of the rare GT-S FX. The areas discussed above will need only minor attention. I also ran some 3M hand glaze over the paint in several areas and the finish immediately regained it's luster. The sun here in Florida is very hard on exterior finishes and the FX still retains it's glossy finish. Call or email if you have any questions. I have posted additional photos of the interior which, though somewhat dirty from storage, is in immaculate condition. On Apr-04-13 at 18:29:25 PDT, seller added the following information: The reserve price has been lowered to my minimum acceptable figure. I like this odd car and if someone doesn't step up and buy then I'll complete the engine and 5 speed manual conversion, though It will have to be mothballed for some time. Thank you all for your interest!
