Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a show quality, original survivor, 1981 Honda CB650 Custom. This is a two-owner Georgia bike that was unregistered and not ridden after 1997. It was correctly winterized and properly stored indoors since then. I have been wrenching on and restoring Hondas for 47 years and I have never seen an unrestored CB650C this clean. This is a legitimate “2-footer”, not a “20-footer”. You see clean CB750s at bike shows all the time, but rarely a CB650C this nice. I normally restore bikes for a specific customer. This one is a local find that I decided to do for sale at auction. The bike is all original, just like collectors prefer them. All original stickers and decals are still on the bike. Not one is missing. All chrome shines bright as new in the sun and nearly blinds you. You could shave with a straight razor in the reflection in the front and rear fenders! There is absolutely no discoloration of the exhaust pipes even where you usually see that right where they come out of the cylinder head. All aluminum is in excellent condition as well. Two of the four engine side panels had just a bit of oxidation starting on them so I decided to completely polish those to a bright mirror shine (the left side transmission cover and the right side ignition cover). When I got it, the bike had a Rifle brand fairing on it (designed specifically for this bike). It’s a great little fairing with two storage pockets in it that does a really good job of keeping the wind and cold off of you for its size. I’ve ridden the bike with the fairing on and with it off. It’s a great rider. The fairing is black and I’d be tempted to have it painted to match the bike if I put it back on. The bike also had a model-specific aftermarket luggage rack and integral backrest installed when I got it. Both have been removed to return the bike to box stock, in an effort to target this bike at collectors. If you want to make it a rider, the fairing and luggage rack/backrest are included with the bike and can be reinstalled in about an hour. I left the fairing mounting brackets on the bike for now, so it will be easier to reinstall if you want to. I also have some rubber highway pegs for it. The original tool kit and the original owner’s manual are also included with the bike; another plus for the serious collector. The bike rides and handles great. The engine runs strong and smooth, as it should with only 14,602 miles on it. Since it sat for a while, the carbs have been pulled off and cleaned. There was surprisingly little gunk in them as it was stored properly. All controls, instruments, and lights work properly. (Though I am having an intermittent problem with the horn going out occasionally, but am working on that. Horn tests good, so it must be wiring.) The paint and stripes (decals) on the gas tank and side covers are bright and clear as new and not at all faded. The gas tank has absolutely no dents or dings in it, not even a small one. The tires are era correct for the bike and have nearly 100% of their tread left on them, even the whiskers haven’t worn off. The back tire has a date code of 2007, the front tire a date code of 2008. The rubber on both tires is fresh as new, and is soft and pliable with no evidence of any hardening, cracking or aging. You do NOT need new tires to ride this bike. All other rubber on the bike is also like new. I have used no tire shine or Armor All on anything, since that can cause damage over time. The original seat is perfect! Not a rip in it or stitch out of it anywhere. Other than lots of hand polishing, there was not all that much mechanical to correct on the bike. I had to replace the shifter shaft seal and the oil pump screen o-ring to stop some small oil leaks. The tachometer cable snapped internally and needed to be replaced. I also had a valve cover gasket (one of the single outboard ones) that leaked a tiny bit when I picked up the bike. The leak stopped, and I don’t remember if it was left side or right side, so I haven’t changed the seal. New seal is included with bike just in case. A two minute seal swap. The only blemish on the whole bike is three or four scratches on the gas tank right next to the gas filler hole, from a previous owner being careless with the gas pump nozzle. There are no dents at these spots, just scratches. The scratches are currently primed with a black primer to protect the tank. These can easily be touched up with a touch up pen and be properly color blended to look just right. I’m an excellent mechanic, not a paint and body man, so I’m not going to try to do this myself and mess it up! If you’re a collector, you probably already know how to do this, or have people sourced to do it for you. If you’re just going to ride the bike, and not show it, you likely won’t even bother doing this. (Hey, you’ll just scratch it again!) I’ve had this hobby for many years now, and been around bike shows for just as long. As such, I’ve tried to put a reserve price on this bike that represents a very good value even if you can’t pick it up yourself and have to pay to have it shipped to you. Plus, my spring customers are coming in for their pre-season maintenance, and I need this bike off of my table lift! This bike is registered to me in Georgia. It will come with a bill of sale only, since Georgia does not require a title for a bike this old. If you have any questions about this bike please call me directly, Bob, either at work (M to F - 7:30 am to 4:30 pm) at 678-473-8588, or at home on evenings and weekends at 770-448-4299. The new owner will have a real gem here. With just a bit more polishing you can go out and win some shows with it, or you can ride it for years to come.$500.00 deposit via PayPal within 24 hours. This is a good faith deposit that is not refundable. Balance due in cash at time of pickup by you or your designated representative/shipper. Bike must be picked up within 2 weeks of end of auction. (U.S. bidders only. No bidders with less than 10 previous purchases with all positive feedback will be accepted.) Good luck bidding. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
