Vehicle Detail

Spring is coming soon!...are you ready to have fun in your convertible? English cars love cool weather and the Arkley is no exception! This car purrs like a kitten as it prowls along, hugging winding country roads on a cool summer’s evening…the Arkley is a guaranteed head turner, partly because it was manufactured in limited quantities and not widely known. This Arkley is a hybrid consisting of a fiberglass prefab nose and rear sections. The Arkley body design was adapted to an MG midget/Bug eye Sprite chassis. This vehicle is registered and insured historic which restricts the number of miles it can be driven per year to 2500mi. I drove it on the average of 250 miles per year in dry conditions. I never made time to join a driving club so mileage was always at a minimal. During the last three years the Arkley was driven in the neighborhood to keep it lubricated. The Arkley is housed in a heated garage when not in use and stated periodically during the winter months as a rule. I purchased the car from my best friend, a restoration mechanic and lover of MG midgets. The original date the car first hit the road after restoration was in 1993. I have owned it for the past fifteen years. The power train is a 1275cc 4 cylinder engine, purchased as a rebuilt, equipped with two SU carburetors and standard 4 speed transmission and has been very reliable. As a habit, all fluid levels were checked before each outing. The speedometer cable was never connected. The clutch is new, the tires have ample tread, look new, the Arkley is equipped with an air horn. Recently I experienced a loose wire connection at one of the wire connectors effecting one of the head lights and parking light, which I haven’t made time to correct. One of the rear leaf springs has a crack and only felt if driven into a pot hole. The brakes are on the softer side, no leaks apparent at the wheel cylinders, The master cylinder maybe leaking, vehicle does brake and I have bleed them before winter storage. The main reason for selling is that I am getting married this year and I will be down sizing my home and will not be able to garage the arkley. I do not wish to part with this fun vehicle but everything has its time. I wish for it to find an owner that will continue to offer the Arkley TLC.
