Vehicle Detail

1987 Subaru Brat 4WD "Willy" NO RESERVE Welcome, thank you for viewing my 1987 Subaru Brat 4WD. These vehicles are very utilitarian and sought after by collectors, who actually like to use them like they were meant for, not make them trailer queens. The Subaru Brat, Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter. These were developed in Japan for the American Market, the first ones arriving in 1978. I had a '78 a while ago, may have been on of the nicest early original Brats on the planet, since I owned that one and really got to know the BRAT, they have become one of my favorite little Japanese rigs. Production ended in 1993. Anyways, this Brat is in great shape, the biggest enemy of any Brat is rust. The Brat is rust free, very solid, pretty amazing. I took pictures of underneath of it, took the interior out so you could see how clean this little guy is for its age, and being a Brat. It has 167K on it, and just runs like a top. About 10 years ago, Willy went through a mild overhaul, yes had a new coat of paint put on him. It is one of the nicest little Brats that I have seen lately, he is not perfect, but a very nice driver, and you could take him to any car show and he will draw a big smile from everyone. I got this vehicle from a family member that was selling it for the original owner, I did not get to meet her, she loved this little guy from what I was told, and finally had to turn him loose, due to failing health. Would have been great to hear the stories about the adventures of ol' Willy. Anyways, the condition of this Brat is in very nice shape. As I mentioned before this Brat is Rust free, which is amazing for a vehicle like this. It was painted around 15 years ago, the original color Lucent Grey Metallic. It has a very nice gloss and looks great. It in the last 10 years has gained some war wounds, such as little dings and some chips. The tailgate is missing, have no clue were it is or what happen to it. It has a very nice tailgate rack for it, which serves its purpose for now. Another tailgate could be found in the future but for now, this one works just great. A while back they put a new locking aluminum box in the rear, but never got to use it, a nice addition. After 1985, they did not put seats in the rear because Subaru did not need to jump through the hoops to import them anymore, you could install some if you wanted through. Also has a factory style low profile roll bar. The drivers side, tailight, around the edge of the light opening has been touched up it was bumped in slightly as some point. The passenger marker light has a crack in it. Underneath the front bumper passenger side corner, it is dented a little you can not really see it unless you look underneath of it. Overall the paint on this Brat is in very good shape for its age. The Brat Targa Stripes have been painted on instead of a decal. For the most part it has been garaged most of its life, all the window rubbers are in good shape, no leaks inside. Again, this is a driver, so it has little dings and small scratches on it, look at the pictures, I can not take a picture of every little thing on the body, you will get a feel for what it is. The undercarriage is in great shape, no signs of any rust or repairs, very clean. No signs of any major accidents, everything is very straight, the inner aprons, innner wheel wells all look great. The frame rails look very good as well. I know I keep saying it, but it needs to be said, Brats in this condition are very hard to find. The interior is in great shape, the seats are like new with little wear. The dash pad has some cracks on it, but I do have a nice dash pad cover that goes over it, that is included, but I wanted to take picture so you could see the cracks. The radio has been upgraded with a AM/FM/CD Player. It works, but the Antenna is broken off Willy, I can stick a wire in the antenna hole, and get all the stations on the radio it works well, just needs an antenna. This Brat came equipped with the T-Top options, that look like little wings, very nice for airflow through the cab. Also it has a Sliding rear window as well, that opens up on each side instead of the middle very functional. The carpet is decent, but it does have some staining on it, but while I had the carpet out, I had it professionally cleaned, but there are some stains still showing, really can't see them with the floor mats, but they are not that bad. All the gauges work, tach, speedometer, odometer, oil pressure all work. Wipers and Horn work as well. The Dome light works, but you have to fiddle with it a little, it might have a loose connection inside, I did not want to take it off, because the lens is a little brittle. The hood release, part of the handle is broken off, but you can grab it easily and open the hood. These Brats came from the Japanese factory set up for Air Conditioning, it has all the stuff under the dash for AC, the Switches etc. But this was up to the Dealer if the wanted to install AC in them. This one did not have AC put in it. But it would be easy to do because it is all plumbed for it. Just need a Compressor, Condenser, it already has the Pulley assembly on the engine as well. Overall the interior is very serviceable, and in good shape for its age. The Drivetrain is in very good shape. It starts right up, it does not have any noticable oil leaks, nothing on the ground. The engine is very clean under the hood, no signs of any issues. In the last year, it went through a major service, cleaning, new gaskets, tune up, valves adjusted, had new tires put on, brakes replaced, new rubber brake lines upfront. The engine is in very good shape, it runs excellent, has had a recent tuneup, new plugs, cap rotor, oil is very clean. It does not burn or blow any smoke, it is actually running in all my photos. The transmission shifts nicely, no grinding, no popping out of gear, clutch is very easy to push in and not a bear like some of these old Muscle cars I deal with. Underneath the engine and transmission are clean as well as transfer case. The 4wd works, I have tried it, and everything is in order. All the boots for the Axles are in good shape, no cracks in them. it has new brake lines upfront, and a new axle on the passenger side. The brakes work very good. Overall mechanically it is in very good shape, and should be a joy to drive for many years for someone. As you know this is a used car, so with that said, there is no warranty on it, though Japanese vehicles are proven to be very strong rigs. Overall this is a nice little car that you can drive and enjoy, it is not a show car, just a good weekend cruis-in car. If you are looking for a trailer queen, this is one that you can enjoy and do upgrades as you go. Please study the pictures, if you have questions please give me a call.
