Vehicle Detail
My husband and I have a couple too many automobile restoration projects right now and this sweet 190Db Ponton Wagon is mine. We have each decided to get rid of one of our cars to finish the other so my loss will be someone elses gain. Built and sold in 1961 this 190Db Sedan was last registered in 1992 when the previous owner put it in storage where it stayed until we bought it last year. These early diesels are simply amazing and even after 20 years, with a new battery and fuel it started right up and runs like a champ. Since we've owned it we've owned it we've done the following work: 1. Installed new fast style glow plugs. 2. Installed 1 of 2 new motor mounts (the other uninstalled new one will come with the car) 3. Rebuilt the radiator. 4. Rebuilt the front wheel cylinders. 5. Rebuilt the master cylinder. 6. Installed new rear wheel cylinders. 7. Installed 4 new brake hoses. It starts instantly and runs great and is a nice, solid, rust free (other than some minor surface rust) California car. We just finished the brake work and after a test drive my husband says that the brakes need some further adjustment but we are not sure we can get "rack time" to do that before it is sold. It does appear that in the past the right front fender and hood were replaced which is why the car has the earlier narrow grill which I actually prefer. 30 years ago I drove a car like this was my every day driver. They get phenomenal gas mileage and if you want to go green it can be easily converted to Biodiesel. If you take care of these cars they will run forever. My old car had over 500,000 miles on it when we got rid of it. I love these old Mercedes diesels and really wanted to keep and restore this one as a driver but my knee is not what it was back then and shifting is painful so I have to give this baby up. This is a sweet, solid car that runs and drives and is a perfect candidate for restoration. theaddams Store On Jan-25-13 at 20:33:41 PST, seller added the following information: A word about the mileage showing on the odometer of over 39,000 miles...that is what the odometer shows. It is obvious that the car has more than what is indicated by the odometer but how much more we don't know for sure...it could be 100,000 or 200,000, we just don't know.
