Vehicle Detail
This is a rare 1988 Chevrolet Sprint in good running condition. We purchased this Sprint from a mechanic in Idaho in 2010 who had just put a new clutch in it. My wife used it for the past three years to go back and forth to school. It runs well and gets great gas mileage. We just spent $1000 putting a new carburetor in it (had to have had it custom made by a company in California). We have continued to care well for it, replacing the battery and muffler in our time, refurbishing brakes, as well as sprucing up the interior with seat covers and a rubber-style covering in the rear. It has a small tilt sunroof and 5-speed manual transmission. It is fun to drive because it is so light. We have taken good care of it, knowing there are so few of them still on the road. We think it has just over 177,000 miles on it, but the odometer only goes up to 99, 999, so we are assuming it already crossed over 100,000 since it is over 25 years old. The tires are a year old and are have plenty of tread on them. My wife had wanted this car because she had owned one in the past, and since she was going to school, she wanted something with good gas mileage and that would be easy to park in the city. She got about 45 mpg, city driving. It served her well, but now it is time to let it go. We know someone who loves the Sprint will enjoy having this unique car. We affectionately referred to it as a "go-kart". It is a very simple car. Because of its age, this car has multiple issues. Some would be easier to fix than others, but we want to be upfront about all of them. The small sun roof (tilts up only) does leak when it rains. It needs a new gasket around the lip. We removed the original radio and front speakers, because they did not work, but haven't replaced them, just the back speakers. A new one could be put in as all the connections are there. I think the new carburetor needs to be adjusted as it seems to idle faster than needed and the gas mileage has decreased from 45 to 40 mpg since it was installed. Also, I hear a little rumble now which probably means there is a hole developing in the exhaust. The gas gauge does not work properly--the arm doesn't go all the way to the top when the tank is full. We pay attention to the trip meter and fill up every three hundred miles or so. The car has an 8.7 gallon tank, and it's great to fill up because you spend so little. We have the original car manual, and a Hayes manual for the car. The car has a some scratches, dents, and general wear and tear for being used for 25 years! There is some rust in a few areas. In the interior, the carpet could be replaced. My wife cleaned the car THOROUGHLY, including removing the back seat and wiping everything down. She adjusted seat covers to fit and cut rubber material to cover cracks in the dash vinyl. We've done the best we can to keep it nice and to maintain it well, but the buyer should realize that this is an older vehicle which will have its issues along with being a great workhorse of a car. The title is free and clear and in hand. Please note payment options. Car must be collected within 30 days of auction close, but the payment IN FULL is required within 7 days of auction close. Title can be transferred as soon as payment clears, so if you want to get plates to take it away with, we can work that out. We do not have plates to let you use, however, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles will allow you to purchase a permit to move an unregistered vehicle that you purchase, and you can do that online. They aren't expensive--$15, I think, which is much cheaper than a ticket. Feel free to ask questions. Happy Bidding!
