Vehicle Detail
This 1959 MGA roadster is finished in chariot red over tan leather hides. The seats are showing a bit of wear, but are still super comfortable and look the part. The paint is deep and lustrous with very few flaws. It is not often you see red MGA’s painted factory correct colors, but as far as I can tell this one is spot on chariot red. Chariot was darker than orient red, and when parked next to the two other red MGAs we have had here this month, the color on this one really stood out as far deeper than the normal “apple” red you see on so many of these rebuilt cars. The previous owner purchased this MGA as a solid driver in the late 80's in Texas, where the car had spent its whole life. He stripped it down and had it restored in the early 90's. I would describe it as a VERY nice body-on restoration. The car has fared extremely well over the years with the exception of the top which has a little tear on it. The top is still very functional, but is probably nearing the end of its days. The motor compartment is clean and presentable, underneath, although there is some over spray, the car is extremely solid with all the bits that are supposed to be there (inner rockers etc) and no sign of any damage or rust repair on the frame. When the previous owner did the initial restoration, he put this car back together spec’d as a 1600 with the later front disc brakes sitting behind rare 60-spoke wire wheels. He also put 1600 tail-lights on the rear fenders for the quintessential MGA “look”. The motor is a 1500, although it is bored over with performance parts making the displacement just about spot on to a 1600 and putting out far more horsepower than a stock 1600. In the early 2000's, the previous owner rebuilt the motor, bored .30 over with a hot road cam. We have just finished taking off the head, replacing the valve guides and having the head re-machined. The result is a very peppy MGA 1500 that looks phenomenal and goes just as well. The market on these cars has been through the roof over the past 6 months. Do not miss this opportunity. This is an investment grade car. A very smart buy. Please visit WWW.OXFORDMOTORCARS.COM to see more pictures of this particular car!!!
