Vehicle Detail
This MGA 1600 roadster was just purchased out of long-term ownership and is ready for a straight-forward restoration. The previous owner inherited the car from his father who had the car since the early 70's. As it sits this is an honest, straight restoration project on a very solid 1600 wire-wheel car. VIN# GHNL/69577 is one of the very first MGA 1600's ever built. The frame is dirty and flaking in places but is otherwise solid, it would look much nicer if you spent a few hours scraping it. There is no significant frame rot or rust--what you see is cosmetic. The rocker panels will need to be replaced and the doglegs patched--all the normal MGA bodywork. There has been some questionable rust repair done to the trunk floor which should probably be redone--but everything it needs is straightforward. The car was last on the road in the early 90's and has sat in a heated garage since then. While it does not run, the engine is free and none of the brakes are seized or anything--the car rolls easily. I think with new hydraulics and a flushed fuel system this car could be on the road in a weekend. If you are looking for a care-free driver, you can easily get this baby running, throw in an interior and blend in a few areas of paint. If you are looking to restore a car to concourse condition, they say start with the best one you can--this is an excellent candidate for a full restoration. As you can see the doors all line up great (the latch on the bonnet needs some attention, thus the gap): this car needs no substantial body-work. It is getting harder and harder to find real-solid 1600 projects with wire wheels. When this car is finished it will be one of the most desirable MGA's you can find. If this isn't the one for you, give us a call we also have a Twin Cam and a MkII project available. This car is an excellent investment and an even better winter project!
