Vehicle Detail

We purchased this little diesel for our daughter in March of 03. It had been highway driven by a salesman prior to us getting it. We wanted our daughter to have a safe and economical vehicle to drive during high school and college. She is now out of college working and purchased a new car so we are selling this one otherwise we would still be driving it. I will do my best to describe every aspect of this Jetta to the best of my ability. It has only been driven by our daughter other than myself on occasion. She has taken extremely good care of it. It has been mainly garage kept. In 10 years she only drove it 90,000 miles! This has been an EXCELLENT car with GREAT FUEL economy. When our daughter drives it she gets around 37 miles to the gallon. When I drive it I get about 42! The car is 13 years old and would be considered in way above average condition. It has minimal wear for a car this age. The worse looking places on the car is the inside front door handles. The engine runs great. Our mechanic told us these engines are built to go 400 and 500 thousand miles. We have been told that the car will fall apart around the engine and I believe this based on our experience and what I have read online. The car has a tiny oil leak which our mechanics have said is normal from the pressure of a diesel engine and recommends we replace a seal but not until the timing belt is changed again. He said it is wasting money to pay for the work to change the seal when it can be done when the belt is changed next time. This way we don’t pay for the labor twice. The bottom line is this is a wonderful car, especially for its age. It is being sold AS IS, no reserve and the buyer responsibility to pick it up. Because the car is advertised in other avenues, the seller can end the auction if it sells locally. The car does not come with a stated or implied warranty. As nice as the car is, it is still 13 years old and I can’t be responsible for the mechanics of it once it leaves my possession, but I can assure you that currently it is in GREAT SHAPE and RUNS GREAT! We have 2 keys, the original VW Jetta TDI Manuel, original paperwork from purchase and a entire file of service work that has been done over 10 years. We also have a zip lock bag of extra light bulbs etc. for the car. The tires are ok. They are KUMO tires because we won them. We normally use Michelin and to be honest the ride is much better with the Michelin although the Kumos have been ok. The timing belt was changed at around 132,000 miles and is “recommended” somewhere before 200,000. I would plan this in the near future as a buyer. I don’t play around with timing belts! A few extras on the car is an electronic security system including theft security, custom VW floor matts, Monsoon Premium Sound System, heated seats, extra tented windows that really help keep it cool in the summer and allows privacy, CD Player, all power, moon/sun roof with cover and many other extras that make it an extremely nice car to drive. It has not been involved in an accident since we have owned it for 10 years! Below are a few bumps in the road: 1- It is low to the ground so my daughter bumps into parking stops on a regular basis. Our body man who happens to be my brother-in-law said it was not doing any damage when this happens although it did keep breaking a protective cover under the car that helps keep it clean from road debris. We decided to just remove the cover because every time she hit a parking stop it knocked the cover off. 2- My daughter backed into my son’s truck and dented the trunk last year. You can see this in the photo. 3- Someone backed in to her in a parking lot and did a small cracked area in the paint on her front bumper. This shows on the photo. 4- She didn’t realize her wiper pad was bad and scratched the windshield. Shown if photo. 5- In 2005 the car was vandalized while it was parked at a high school parking lot. Video surveillance captured children throwing river rocks at it! The kids did over $2000 in cosmetic damage so the car had a new windshield (front and back) and a new paint job.
