Vehicle Detail
1972 International Travelall Deluxe NO RESERVE The Travelall is just about my favorite rig in the world, there is just something about the utilitarian design of these rigs. So what we have here is a very original 1972 International Travelall. This is 100% original paint, this is the paint that was applied in 1972 on this Travelall, there is no spot painting, there are no touch ups on the chips, 100% original. The interior is 100% original to it as well (besides the radio). This has been been preserved through the last 41 years, and is a true Survivor. This is a 1 owner vehicle, bought new in Arizona at Hamilton Equipment Co, in Tucson, Arizona. A young lady who worked for the Dealership, was planning to move to Salem, Oregon with her husband, so about 2 weeks before they moved, they bought this 1972 IH. This wagon became her daily driver for the next 41 years. It only has 107,583 miles on it, it was not parked in some barn for 20 years, that is hard on vehicles. This Travelall was used and up kept throughout all these years as a daily driver, but very sparingly, which explains the mechanical shape of it. This rig you can fly in right now, and drive it home. Again, a vehicle can only be original once, to me that is what makes them very special, you can not reduplicate an Original Survivor, to me it is worth more then a restored vehicle, even with its imperfections. In 2009 and 2010, it was taken to the Great West Binder Bee Show, and it won both years, Most Original Condition, that says a lot of about this Travelall and its History. It is in great condition, the interior is very nice. The seats are all original, and have that Gold sheen to them that just looks great. The seats have very little wear. The drivers side, on the side on the vinyl has 1" small tear, that could be repaired if you so wish, I would just leave it. The door panels are in nice shape, they decided to put an aftermarket radio in it, during the 1980's, one speaker is not working. The headliner is in excellent shape, usually these are in bad shape, with panels missing, they are made out of press board, this one has held up. The carpet is original. The front carpet is pretty worn, not really any holes, but some thin spots. Rear carpet is worn as well in the cargo area, to be expected, this vehicle was used for their family. The dash pad is in excellent shape, no cracks or discoloration. The steering wheel is amazing, no cracks. Aftermarket gauges have been installed at the bottom of the dash area, you could remove them if you like. The gauges on the dash seem to be working as well, besides the amp gauge. This Travelall has Factory Air Conditioning. It was working 2 years ago, but needs recharged. It still has the belt on it, and the clutch is free, I just have not had time to look into getting it charged back up, the good thing, is that everything is there, and everything looks to me like it should work, it is clean and in order. Overall the interior for an original vehicle is in excellent shape, especially an International. Mechanically it is in excellent shape. It has always been serviced, and clean. Her husband was a mechanic by trade, and he babied this thing. I have not touched up the engine compartment, this is the way I got it, very, very clean. I do see that in the past they must have repainted the valve covers, but overall, the engine compartment is very original. The only addition is they put a Carter Carb on it. It starts right up, and is very quiet, not exhaust leaks, just purrs like a kitten. It does not blow smoke or burn any oil. The transmission is in great shape, shifts nicely and smooth. The brakes are in very good shape, it does not pull, very smooth. It has been maintained by local shops in the last 8 years. The last repairs were about 5 months ago, she had the front end rebuilt, new pushings, new tie rods, lower ball joints, etc. The brakes were redone at 102 miles, back in 2007. The tires are in excellent shape, they have about 90% tread on them Overall, seriously you could fly in, drive it home, it is very dependable. All the lights work, interior lights, exterior lights, backup lights, lic plate lights, windshield wipers, horn, heater etc. Mechanically sound. The exterior is 100% original. This is a Deluxe Model, has the Deluxe Exterior trim package. The paint is in very nice shape, nice and shiny. There are various small chips on the vehicle. The only ones that really stand out are some scatches on the front fenders. They could be touched up, but I felt best leave them alone, the car is original, so I did not what to touch them up. The panels are very straight. There are a few light dings here and there, but darn few. There are some areas that have a little rust starting. You could leave them, or have them repaired pretty easily. You will see pictures of these areas, nothing structural, just the way these rigs were, but this one is pretty minor. The bumpers are in great shape, the chrome is excellent. Overall it is not perfect, but I personally, I think it one of the best original Travelalls in the country, very hard to find one of these in this condition. They were used, no one thought they would be collectable one day so many folks just used them, they are touch rigs and people used them that way. This one was able to survive, mostly because the young lady that owned it and babied it all these years loved it. This is a true survivor, preserved, as delivered from the factory. What a time capsule, I hope the next owner will have it for another 40 years. It is not show car, it is not perfect, it has its flaws, and issues. It is something that you will take to shows and enjoy though. This vehicle was meant to be used, so please enjoy it. Study the pictures, give me a call if you have questions, if you want to fly in and inspect it before you bid, then please do. A U C T I O N E N D S January 15 th- This Tuesday Night EAST COAST: 11:00 pm WEST COAST: 7:00 pm The Possibilities are endless with this Binder, I love vintage camping trailers (Airstream and Canoe are NOT included by the way). If you are into vintage campers, outdoor excursions, Fishing, Photography, Classic Cars, Vintage Race Car Hauler, etc, then this is the rig for you). They used to use it to pull there '58 Impala drag car to the races back in the late 70's. This is a picture from 1972, when they first got the Travelall. They lived in Arizona at the time, and for the move up they bought it brand new on Feb 15, 1972. 2 weeks after getting it they headed to Salem, Oregon. Built a house that same year, and it has been at that residence all of its life, until now. The only reason she sold it, is because she can not drive it anymore, or else it would be still in her garage. The day I picked it up, she was nice enough to take a picture with it for the last time, and proudly show off her award for Most Original Awards at the 2009, and 2010 Binder Bee Northwest Show. This is a Huge show here on the west Coast, everything IH. The awards, are with her still, she wanted to keep them, which I agreed they should stay. When they bought it new in Arizona, they purchased it for there move to Oregon. She actually worked at Hamilton Equipment Company, and got a great deal on it. Her husband put it in his name and used his mailing address because they were moving to Oregon. This is the Original Build sheet for this Binder, VIN# B17007H210826. Original Miles to this date 107,583, it may have about 20-30 more, I like to drive it around. Clean Oregon Title, had it retitled in 2004 when husband passed. I own this vehicle, Title in hand. Original Oregon plates from 1972. All the lights work, even the backup lights, and the lic. plate lights.
