Vehicle Detail
We have a very nice 1970 Cougar Eliminator that is in fantastic condition and about 95% restored. Yes it is real, it is in the Eliminator registry, I have 3 build sheets(in various stages of decay, but you can see Eliminator on it), Marti Report and buck tag. Car has been in Texas since the mid 70's and is originally from Diers Lincoln Mercury(still has dealer tag on back of car) in Freemont. I have owned the car for a couple of years and have reached a point where I have lost interest, I need someone with a fresh outlook on the car to finish it up and enjoy it. It is 95% complete with very little to do on it. Here is a breakdown of what has been done. Body: Body was in pretty good condition when I purchased the car. It has had floor work done because the last owner took the hood and break booster out of the car(and stored it in his shed) and it rained in the hole for who knows how many years and got under the carpet. The floor work is excellent and has been ground smooth underneath and finished off for a seam free appearance as the photos will show. Paint is beautiful and straight as an arrow down the sides with no bubbling or rust. Dash, trunk, all 4 inner fenders and 90 percent of the metal is original and in fantastic condition. Nothing needs done to the body, it is a fantastic paint job and magnet friendly. You could probably buff some places but only if your bored and want to do something to the car. Gas tank is new along with all lines, brake, gas etc. Interior: Interior is pretty much original except for the new carpet, dynomat and radio. All door panels, seat covers, seatbelts, etc. are in original condition and look pretty good for a white interior. Dash is original with no cracks or bad areas. Clock works as do the gauges and interior lights. While changing the carpet I found 3 build sheets, one on each seat pedistal and one under the passenger rear seat. None are perfect but you can make out all the options and such by looking at all three. Two say Eliminator on the bottom of the build sheet which is clear. Original rim blow steering wheel that has never been restored but has no cracks and the horn still works great. Vintage air A/C(still needs charged). Drivetrain: Engine is a proper 351 Cleveland with 4bbl heads and exhaust manifolds. Engine was rebuilt last year(receipts included). Tremec 5 speed tranny that was purchased last year(receipts included). Rearend was cleaned and resealed(no leaks). Exhaust is aluminized. Pretty much all the electrical stuff under the hood is new, battery, pertronix coil, distributor, alternator. Engine fires up like fuel injection and idles perfectly but when you go in gear is starts sputtering and coughing. I've read 100 things it could be but have not been able to get the problem fixed. Could be valve adjustment, I've pulled the covers and they are perfect, nothing bent or broken just can't figure it out so the next guy can. But the engine purrs like a kitten sitting there so it's not anything internal, will not be a problem getting it loaded as it starts out in first great but coughs when put into second. No real leaks anywhere but you know how these old cars can be, but none at the current time. Power steering, power brakes. Edlebrock IAS shocks on all 4 corners, larger rear sway bar on the rear and newer Shelby wheels with Goodyear Eagle tires on with 90% tread left. Lights: Lights and brake lights work. Turn signals stopped working two months ago. Since then I've replaced the turn signal switch with an NOS one, I have a flasher can(uninstalled). emergency lights work perfectly so the can may be all you need or possibly a new rear sequencial box($150.00). Headlight covers go up and down perfectly but the rubber boot on the vacuum can has a pin hole in it so the lights will go up after the car is off. I haven't been able to find a new boot to replace it but that is the only leak in the hole system. The hoses are new and are the repo's that look like the originals. These are the only problems with the car, really not much at all. I'm sure someone with better knowledge of the engine thing can get it quick. Send me any questions you may have, I take pride in my feedback and am honest has I can be and usually a little hard on the stuff I sell. Thanks for lookingOn Jan-11-13 at 11:25:31 PST, seller added the following information: *****UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE****** Car is purring like a kitten now. Pertronix Coil and distributor were only getting 4.9 volts, calls for a full 12volts from the factory. Hooked up coil to a switched 12 volt source and now the car has no sputtering or choking. Just got done driving it 70 miles per hour down the highway with no issues whatsoever. Now only needs a new boot for the vacuum actuator and turn signals fixed. Thanks for all the questions and complements on the car. On Jan-11-13 at 12:19:53 PST, seller added the following information: *****UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE***** Car will be taken to have front end aligned and a/c charged Monday, haven't been able to do it since car wasn't running right. Also, forgot to mention, car has electric fans.
