Vehicle Detail
1970 Ford Thunderbird with just 57,000 original miles! This Thunderbird 4 door with rear suicide doors is just pure luxury. It drives and shifts through the automatic transmission great with just having changed all plugs, points, rotor, distributor cap and replaced the original Autolite 4300 carb with a brand new rebuilt Motorcraft 4300 carb. Its hard to believe the condition of this car, as I've been driving it. All lights (headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, hazard lights, front turn lights (option), all gauge lights, dome light, all cabin lights, trunk light, glove box light) work! Horn works by pinching the actual steering wheel ring, windshield wipers and wash down nozzles work, all gauges work including the clock! 3 power windows work. AC is all intact and kicks on and off with the temperature control. It still gets cool as well. The electric rear window defroster works with the hand controls. All around great car for the money!! You just don't see these on the road and drives better than any luxury car on the road today! Things that dont work; fuel gauge (certain its the sending unit bad, easy fix), and radio (radio lights up but doesn't play, knobs for it are in the turnk). The rear passenger window doesn't work and has to be the motor as switches test sat ($35.00 here on ebay). Brakes work but one front wheel brake cyclinder is bad and leaks, again easy repair. If you want me to fix these items after the auction is over, contact me for price and availability. The interior on this Thunderbird looks as good as the day it rolled off the assembly line. I haven't find any tears or rips, headliner is near perfect, all door panels are correct, sun visors, seat belts, all there and original. This is what sold me on this car! Really comfortable to drive. Car has had what appears to be one repaint, utilizing the same original color. The car was wrapped in layers of plastic when I purchased it, so the top of the engine lid has dulled a little. Brown vinyl top is in great shape as well. All glass is good, but the drivers door glass has a few minor scratches. The trunk is complete with the original tire jack and all the card board panels. The drain lines from the rear vent need the hoses changed, as the originals are dry rotted and leak some water in the trunk. I have the original manuals, plus all the repair manuals to go with this great Thunderbird. Also have the original Autolite carb in case you want to rebuild it for a spare. Remember, this great car is 42 years old and by no means is perfect, but with only having 57,000 original miles, is real dependable, fun and comfortable to drive! Its not a green car with having a huge 429 Thunderjet engine, but real cool to take the family to DQ on Saturday nights. I will be leaving to take a Christmas vacation from 21 Dec - 31 Dec 2012. If unable to pick up within the week immediately after this auction, you will have to make arrangements to pick up upon my return. Thanks and Good Luck I've had a few questions asking what I would take to end this auction? This is a no reserve auction, so I'll take as much as I can get of course. If I get one bid, that person just bought a wonderful car for the money. I've also been asked if it can be driven home? This car is tagged and registered, and I drive it usually on fridays to work, and then around town on weekends. Its hasn't left me walking, but you have to pay attention to your miles to keep fuel in her. Easy enough to do until the fuel gauge sending unit is replaced. I haven't had it on a long trip, but don't see any reason why it wouldn't make it. Thanks and Good Luck!
