Vehicle Detail

1969 Mercury Cougar XR7-351 Windsor Engine I have owned this car 2.5 years. The person that owned this before me purchased it in 1992 & drove it to Oregon from an Air Force base in California. It was his project car & I know he had put in new upholstery & vinyl on roof & headliner. Vinyl on roof may need some trim pieces & attention, but looks like new otherwise. In approximately 2003 the gentlemen’s health deteriorated & car sat protected in his shop until I discovered it in 2010. Last fall (2011) Cougar got new spark plugs & wires, original carburetor was rebuilt, brand new power brake booster, brand new brakes, all new hardware on brakes, I had the gas tank removed & the gas tank & sending unit hot tanked. Brand new fuel pump. New tires. New battery. Transmission & axels had all brand new fluids put in & adjusted if necessary. Since I have had this work done it has always started right up. I always run ethanol free fuel in it. It starts right up every time & I drive it at least once a week. The car has power steering and disc brakes! As you can see in photos interior doors need to be finished. Center console was in bad shape so I removed it & as you can see in photos dashboard needs replaced as well. But this vehicle can be driven daily with no issues. We buffed out a small 2 by 2 foot area & it buffed out nice, it just takes lots of time. There are no visible dents, body looks very straight. The only possible issue with paint is the front right fender, as you have seen in photos. In my opinion, this is one of the nicest restorable cars you can find in its original condition. She is a beauty. I have the Marti Report for this Cougar. If you would like a copy, please contact me. As far as I know transmission/engine are original numbers matching and correct date codes. When my mechanic did the tune up for me he said it was the correct motor. The car originally came with a/c, I have never used it, I bought it without a belt on it. The compressor & pulley do turn freely with my hand. The lines going to it look really good. I have assumed it just needs a belt, but I don’t know. The headlamps do work. They do open & close when you turn headlights on & off while engine is running. But there seems to be a vacuum loss after shut off & the doors will eventually open. I believe it is an air line which could be replaced easily; I just have not done it. Sequential turn signals work correctly. The speedometer and tachometer work. There are no visible rust issues on the body that I know of. Fenders, quarter panels, doors seem all very solid. The floor pans are in excellent shape as they feel very solid & there has been no leaking. Trunk floor is solid. Interior of trunk hood has original paint that looks like new. I also have original hubcaps.
