Vehicle Detail
One of the finest, lowest mileage, original and unrestored R90/6 boxers you'll ever hope to find outside of a collection or museum. It's been garaged since new, just got it from the original owner, was purchased new in FL in 1974. I have the signed original yellow 1976 Colorado title, the original tool kit and original owner's manual. I bought it with possible intentions of stripping it and making a cafe racer, but it's really just too nice to alter. It starts first kick, but has electric start as well. Everything works as it should. It's as quiet as can be. Manual log shows all dealer services (stamped and signed) up to last major at 16K miles. An exceptional find. I am selling the Windjammer fairing, Reynolds passenger backrest and the crashguards/highwaypegs separately. They have been removed from the bike and it is now back to showroom stock as shown in the first pictures. The rear rack is included. This bike sits nearly as it did when it came off the dealer's floor. It has 17,xxx original miles and the picures do a good job of representing it. Minor paint blemishes on front fender, very small bit of rust on the bottom of one exhaust end. Normal scuffs from nearly 40 years of use, but considering the mileage, that's very little. Newer Metzler ME 77 Perfect and Laser tires were mounted in 2006 before it's last real ride. It was parked and started every few weeks, but the owner bought a newer model and rode that instead and kept this one for sentimental reasons. Tags expired in 4/07. The gas tank and fenders are nearly perfect, front fender has a scuff as shown. The seat is perfect, side covers look excellent, though a few minor cracks have been repaired on the inside on the LH side cover. Pinstriping was done by hand and striper's mark/signiture can be found under the tank. Inside of tank shows a bit of corrosion from sitting, but it is minor. Personally, I would clean it if I kept the bike. Alll in all, a rare, low-mileage collectible machine or classic daily rider. If you are looking for an "as new as possible" vintage BMW, this is most certainly it. Specs at: http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/specpages/R90-6.htm review from: http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/classic-german-motorcycles/bmw-r906-zmmz12sozbea.aspx When the R90 /6 was introduced, it was an instant hit with the motorcycling press. Cycle World magazine was agog over the new model, telling its readers in its February 1974 issue, “The new BMW R90/6 is so exciting it’s difficult to find a point at which to begin describing it,” while Cycle Guide called it a “powerful motorcycle, designed to compete in the performance-conscious market of 1974.” The R90/6 was even accepted into the growing camp of sportbikes, with Cycle World claiming the bike showed that “BMW is serious in its intention of producing the lightest, best handling Sportbike around.” Additional technical infoTotal production: 21,097 Carburetion: Two 32mm Bing Transmission: Five-speed Front suspension: Telescopic forks Rear suspension: Twin shock absorbers, adjustable preload Front brake: 260mm (10.25in) disc Rear brake: 200mm (8in) single-leading-shoe drum Fuel capacity: 18ltr (4.75gal) Motorcycle Classics readers voted this bike the one they would most like to see restored and have a chance to win and they are doing so now in their Race to Rebuild. See it here, to enter and win, but bid on this one in case you don't! http://www.facebook.com/DairylandCycle On Dec-05-12 at 18:55:32 PST, seller added the following information: A Video - see & hear it run: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UM4EieVm8iY&feature=plcp On Dec-05-12 at 19:06:03 PST, seller added the following information: Apologies - probably Granada Red, not Bol d'or Red - Thanks for the info guys! mfg date is 11/73, so an early 74 I assume.
