Vehicle Detail

1959 Buick Electra NO RESERVE Thank you for viewing my 1959 Buick Electra, 2dr Hardtop. This car is a true Survivor, Numbers Matching Wildcat V8 325hp, a true time capsule. This is the first year for this body style and Electra name. This car has been cared for through the last 53 years, not pampered, it has been been driven and enjoyed. They built these cars in the Base Model - Le Sabre, Invicta and top of the line, Electra. This is an ELECTA - VIN: 7F2015106 (7-Electra) It was bought new September 1959, by the Albert & Sylvia Simons of Lebanon, Oregon. It was purchased at M.E. Wookcock & Sons Buick & Cadillac, in Corvallis Oregon in 1959, still have the original dealer leather key holder, and the Original title given back as a Souvenir. The Buick building is still in the same location, but has a different business in it today. The Simons sold the car to the Second owners, in the early 1980’s. I took a chance, and looked up the second owner, and actually talked to her the other day very nice sweat lady, her name is Laverne, her husband Olen passed away back around 1994. I didn’t purchase the car from her she sold it 2 months ago to a gentleman that I got it from, it was not til I talked to her until I learned the true history. Laverne remembers the day they bought it, they drove out to Lebanon, Oregon, to see the car, it had been parked in the Simons extra open carport for around 15-20 years and had not been on the road. When they bought it, she said it had 36K original miles on it, from the odometer reading, and the history that the Simons told them about the car. They couldn‘t believe how preserved it was for an original car, it was not a show car, just a nice clean original car, hard to find. They took it home, got it all cleaned up, her husband did a nice little tuneup on it, and touched up the paint on the motor (he paid someone to paint the motor, got green over all the wires, and hoses, back of firewall etc. not a good job by any means, it needs a good detail), they drove it around for a few years in nice summer weather, putting about 2,000 miles on it. In the late 1980’s, it has sat outside at some point, I am guessing the paint is faded on top, and has discolored and spotting. Eventually it got parked in their barn and covered up around 1992, keeping up registration til 2000, but it never saw the light of day, until 2 months ago, when her Grandson got the car out and cleaned it up some, and they decided to sell it. I asked Laverne, about the miles again, the car has 38K on it currently, I asked again is it 138K or 38K. She says it is 38K, she said again, she said they only put 2K on it, and it had 36K when they bought it. I do not have any proof documented proof of mileage, so assume that it has rolled over. But I truly believe, and others that have seen the car, looking at the original gas pedal, brake pedal, steering wheel, the drivers side of the seat, that this car probably does have 38,000 original miles on it. The carpet is pretty worn on the front is the only sign of major wear in the interior, it must have had plastic covers on it at some point. The back of the car on the top is more faded then the front, the rear was exposed, the license plate is faded as well. The paint is mostly original, on the passenger side, below the beltline trim, the bottom of the door and bottom of the qaurter panel has been repainted, this was done a long time ago, probably in the 60's or 70's, not while Laverne owned it. You can see this also is the original rear license plate, 8J-8046, this is the original plate issued to the car in 1959. The front plate almost looks brand new, brilliant paint, not faded, because it was parked head first with no sunlight, no rock chips in it, this also leads me to believe the 38K original miles. Bid as if it has rolled over though, and you will come to your own conclusion. The paint on the car, has aged, but overall it is presentable. Out in the Sun it really glows, but overcast you can see more of the dullness, from being original paint, it has lots of patina, but I would never paint this car since it is so original. The paint is about 90% original from the factory. It took me some time to notice, but the bottom of the passenger door, and passenger quarter, below middle belt line trim has been painted, not sure why, the second owner didn't realize it either. Most people wouldn't even notice when they are around it, unless I point it out. It does have some small chips and scratches, the paint mostly on top if faded, has little water stains and such. On the roof there is some little chipping that has happened, and there is some small surface rust spots. If I were to keep the car, I would strip and repaint the white roof, it would be easy to do, and would look nicer. You could have the car repainted, but truly, I would urge you not to, it draws a crowd, because when people start looking at it and notice that the paint is mostly original, everyone gets very interested in looking it over, besides the huge fins and style of the car, it is a piece of artwork for sure. There are no major signs of rust on the body that I can see, a few surface things, but no bubbles exposed, quarters panels look excellent, fenders, doors. The Chrome and bright work are in very good condition. The bumpers look very nice for their age. The stainless could use a good buffing, but over all nice condition. There is a light crease on the driverside eyebrow above lights, a couple small dings in trim here and there, but darn few. There is a small dent, on the bottom of the rocker molding, on the passenger side, below the Buick Emblem rocker molding itself. The grill area is in excellent shape the headlight buckets, all look very nice. There mirrors have some pitting in them, this car came with dual mirrors. The Electra was the top of the line for 2dr hardtops. The front windshield needs to be replaced, it is cracked pretty bad, happen a long time ago, planned on replacing it, it is available but ran out of time to do it. It does have a Elks Club Sticker from the 1960’s Lebanon Chapter on the passenger side, hopefully the next owner can remove it and keep it somehow. Anyways, for an original car this car is very clean on the outside. The paint has plenty of patina, but still draws a crowd. The underside of the car is impressive, no rust, beautiful solid floors, factory under coating, and not being driven often probably saved its life. Spending the last 20 years in a barn, aged the car a little though, being covered up and moisture, has gotten to some of the chips on exposed metal leaving surface rust residue, but this is a very clean car for being 53 years old! The interior is original to the car. The seat material, is the same exact as the rear, same material on the door panels, the headliner is like new. The seats must have been covered in plastic like they do in the 50's when you bought a new car, and protected them. The arm rest has a little wear on it, the carpet is very worn, and needs to be replaced. For the interior, I would only change the carpet, and lightly clean the seats, there is some staining on them, and spots, I didn't want to clean them, want to make sure someone does it correctly. The seats are in good shape, not brittle or fragile. I would just do the small things in the interior, and that is it, very impressive interior, all the chrome is very nice. The gauges all work, the instrument cluster lens is crystal clear. The buzzer for the speed sensor works, but the speedometer is off about 15mph, so when it says you are going 85, you are going 60. The emergency brake red light turns on. The only things not work, is the radio lights up, but will not turn on, and the windshield wipers are not currently working, and clock does not work. The key works in the ignition, you put key in the on position, there is a push button next to ignition, and start the car, I am not sure if this is original, but it works. The turn signals, brake lights, running lights, interior lights, headlights, bright lights, and yes the heater and horn work excellent, and yes the Cigarette lighter is working as well. This is a numbers matching car, the Engine has the VIN number stamped on it, and matches. The engine starts right up, and needs to warm up a few minutes, but it has very good oil pressure according to the gauge. The things you will want to change down the road. It still has the same plug wires on it, from when the second owners bought it. It is running good, but did not want to change the wires incase they for some odd reason are original. The engine has very good power, it does not burn any oil and does not blow smoke of any kind. The exhaust is in good shape, but the drivers side muffler as a couple little holes in it at the bottom. As I mentioned before, the second owners, had the engine repainted, when they bought it to touch it up, but truly not a good job, it needs to be repainted. The yellow discolor on the engine, someone got a little degreaser on the side of the block and it changed the paint color, no big deal, you will be touching up engine again anyways. Overall the engine compartment looks in nice shape. Notice the Chalk marks on the firewall still, and the original Trico Windshield wiper filler. It has had a new water pump installed on it recently. I took one of the valve covers off, and the rockers look nice and clean. This engine has never been out of the car, still has the little clips on the exhaust manifolds, usually these get tossed. It probably could use a good tune up on the 4V carb, it has not been touched. When you go to start it cold, you have to put the pedal a bit, but then she fires up nicely and stays running. The transmission shifts nicely it is the original, Twin Turbine Automatic, it shifts nicely, no noises. We have had it down the freeway at 65 mph, and it drives like a dream, for an original car. The brakes were worked on before I got it, it does stop very good, but I think they are out of adjustment, they are power brakes, but really touchy. I drive it around a lot, but you just have to remember they are touch, and will stop quickly. I think what is happening is the front brakes are grabbing more then the rear. Overall a very drivable car the way it sits right now. Windshield wipers are not working, something is wrong with the motor. It does have brand new Uniroyal White Wall Tires on it, and they looks perfect on the car. The undercarriage and trunk area look very nice. The floors are in excellent shape, factory undercoating on them. There are no signs underneath of the the car of rust, or weak spots. The body mounts all look very good. The frame is in excellent shape no rust issues as well. Very original underneath of the car. It does have new shocks all the way around the car as well. The trunk liners are all original. They are stuck down, and I really did not want to damage any of them taking them out, everything feels solid, and from the way the car is on the outside and underneath, I believe the trunk to be very solid. It is NOT a trailer queen, but is a nice time capsule, that can be driven and enjoyed, Look at all the pictures, study them, and read the auction. A U C T I O N E N D S November 25th- This Sunday NIGHT EAST COAST: 11:00 pm WEST COAST: 7:00 pm Top of the Line for '59 - ELECTRA I owned a '59 LeSabre about 6 years ago, loved the Canted Headlights, and Fins, I had wished it were an ELECTRA, but now have this one to pass on to the next owner. These cars are just wild looking a huge step for Buick making this model, at the time it was considered one of the most beautiful american cars. GM actually used the Buick, body as its basis for the other GM cars, and built the Impala around the Buick shell. This are the Original Oregon Plates that were issued to this car when new, matches on the original title. This plate is not restored, 100% original. The rear plate is nice but faded from being parked with rear exposed to the elements and sun. This plate also leads me to believe the low mileage, because it would have been chipped up and weathered a lot more then it is. Gauges all working, Gas Gauge is working, but I don't have hardly any gas in it right now, hope I get home, ribbon style MPH, Amp Meter works, Oil Pressure. All the dash lights work as well. All exterior lights work, back up lights are not working though, but brakes, lic plate, turnsignals all work. The Odometer does work! Original Gas Pedal and Brake Pedal, No wear on Steering wheel, no cracks no rub through, on edges. Parking brake Red Light Headliner is near mint, dome lights work! You can see some light staining on the bottom of the seat, it may be able to be cleaned, but I did not want to risk it, leave it for a professional detailer. These are the original Seat covers, material all matches, front and rear, and the door panel clothe is exact. This is the Original Oregon Title from 1959! This is the Current Title for Oregon Cowl Tag, Color: RC - Copper Glow Poly/ Artic White -roof Original Leather Key Holder from M.E. Woodcock & Sons - Buick Cadillac Original Chalk Marks, and Original Trico Windshield Wiper bottle, has it on the lid, and factory hold down molded in rear.
