Vehicle Detail

1966 Ford Fairlane 500XL - GTA 390 GT - "S" Code NO RESERVE This is a 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 XL - Factory GTA - "S" Code 390 4V (335hp) car. This car has been in hibernation for over 20 years, Big Block GTA Fairlanes are very hard to find. I am going to mention this a few times in the auction, this car does not run, so it is not driveable, has not been on the road for 20 years. This Fairlane is in very good shape for the age, it needs to be restored, but it is a great project car. The 390 GT engine was removed long ago. The second owner who got it in the early 90's removed the original engine, and started to build a new engine for it, but never finished the project so it sat for the last 20 years. The current engine in it is a built '70/71 429 V8, D1VE-AA Block, 1970 DOVE Heads, it was rebuilt 20 years ago as well, but it is in very good shape, and lots of money was spent on the engine, estimated 575hp. You may want to take it out and re-gasket it, and make sure every thing is lubed agian, before trying to start it, our you may want to sell the engine, it cost around $7000 to build back in the early 90's, it is still worth a lot today. I will talk more about the engine and the rebuilt trans later in my writting. Anyways, this is a NO RESERVE AUCTION, meaning, I am starting bidding at $1, and were ever the bid ends, then that bidder gets the car. This GTA has only be repainted 1 time, around the mid 1980's, it has plenty of patina, paint is getting old. Though the paint looks good enough for a driver. You can get it running and enjoy it and work on it as you go, because it still is a very attractive car in Factory Vintage Burgandy, Parchment Interior, and White GTA Stripes. The body on the car is very straight, there is only a few smaller dings/crease, on the passenger door in the middle, and one on the passenger rear quarter panel, you will be able to see in pictures, that is the most noticeable on the car, there are some small dings here and there, but over all a very straight car. The body on the car is in good shape, it does need a few rust repairs, but all in all, not that hard to fix. The rear lower quarter panels, behind the rear wheels down low, need to be replaced on both sides. The driver bottom of fender needs a new panel, there are a few bubbles in the corners of the passenger and drivers doors. Again the paint is old, but does have some gloss, there are various chips and scratched on the car as well. I can not write about every ding and scratch on the car, but you will see in the pictures the general condition. The underneath of the car looks pretty good, has excellent frame rails, torque boxes. The drivers floor was replaced at one time, you can see seam, but is decent job. There are a few rust spots that need to be fixed, but pretty minor, mostly surface rust in general. The trunk pan looks to be in good shape as well, mostly surface rust. This car has original, quarter panels on it, inner door jams, all look to be very clean as well. Interior is basically original, carpet was replaced in the late 80's but besides that everything is original in the car. Basically the interior needs to be restored, but usable as is until you decide to do something with. Things to note in the interior, is the factory Console is in excellent shape, no breaks, very clean, this is the hardest and most expensive peice in the interior, the GT emblem is nice as well. The seats are old, padding feels good though, the seat covers door panels are all reproduced. The Radio is missing in the car. I do not currently have the keys to the doors and ignition, only the trunk. The dash pad has some cracks in it. The headliner is actually in very nice shape, and original. Overall the interior is there, but will need to be redone down the road. High Performance engine in the car is a pretty built 1970/71 Ford 429 4V engine displacment now is 447ci. When it was built 20 years ago, it was estimated to be around 575HP. It has never been fired, it has been sitting in the car, with a rebuilt C6 Transmission waiting be be finished installing. Here is a description of the engine, lots of money was spent on this motor, around 1994. 1971 429 Block D1VE-AA (a special block over the DOVE Block, Thick main web, and can accept 4 bolt mains installed), built to turn around 7500 RPM, 575hp (est), DIVE-AA 429/460 Block Checked cleaned, magnafluxed, Bored 0.080, 2 bolt mains. Crank: 1970 429 Cobra Jet, Magnafluxed, Shot Peened, Journals Polished. Rods: Shot Peened, New ARP Rod Bolts, uses smaller BBC Wrist Pins, Lightened. Pistons: Custom Venolia Pistoned, Forged, Single Valve Cut. Heads: 1970 DOVE, Screw in BBC Studs, Stainless Steel Valves, Larger Intake Valves Street Race Port 2.08 intake, 1.75 exhaust stainless, Polished Intake and Exhaust Ports, Reworked Combustion Chambers, Lazar Springs, BBC Rockers (just on heads $3500 spent). Cam: Lazar Intake .599 "lift, 295 Duration, Exhaust .597lift, 290 duration. Other items: 3/8" Hardened Pushrods, Mildodon 9qt Oil Pan and Pickup, Lazar Hydraulic Lifters, Wieland Dual Plane Intake (idle-6800rpm, Holley 950cfm 4V, Double Roller Timing Chain. Transmission, Ford C6 GER Street/Strip, with 10' 3000rpm Stall Converter, and Shift kit. The rearend is the Original 9", with 3.25 gears. I do have the drive line for the car as well. It has drum brakes all the way around. The wheels were bought in the early 90's, they are in decent shape, but they have some rust pitting on them. The tires are old, and really good for rollers at this point, they do hold air though. Overall Mechanically, it is a guessing game at this point, it has been sitting for 20 years, and pretty much everything needs to be gone though to make it a good driver again. I believe the 429 Engine, and transmission are in good shape, just important to take the heads off, and oil pan, and give it a good inspection, and regasket it, same with transmission. This gentleman I got the car from, I believe spent around $6500-7000 on the engine back in 1994, and another $1500 on the transmission. Again, this car is not running and driving, so please do not email me asking if it runs and drives, trying to be nice in general about it, so no it does not run and drive currently, it is sold as a project. I have never put a battery in it, I would imagine lights and such work, but never installed battery. The miles on the odometer read 43,637 assume it has rolled over at least once. The rocker arms, and springs, on top of the heads, got a little surface rust on them, then need to be cleaned up a little but it is very light. The Valley has not been cleaned, and you can see the harden 3/8 pushrods, and inside you can see the cam and lifters in some of the pictures. The intake and exhaust ports have all been ported and polished. The engine has never been fired, it sat for 20 years, no water was ever put into it, and no oil, only the assembly lube that is still present. You will want to go through engine again, and make sure everything is lubed and assembled again to be safe. I can not gaurantee the engine by anymeans, because I have never ran it myself, it it still needs to be completed. Heads both Read DOZE-C, these heads combined with the block casting below is a big deal in high performance 429/460 Engines. Very sought after block, D1ZE-AA Here you can see the rust blisters at the bottom of the fender below the white stripes. Also a couple in the bottom corner of the door. A couple little tiny blisters in front of wheel, and a larger area behind the wheel.
