1961 MGA 1600 Roadster: This dove grey 1600 MGA was owned for the past thirty years by a discerning lady car-collector. During her ownership, the car was subject to a full body off restoration with no expense spared. While the restoration was finished over ten years ago, it has held up exceptionally well, with the car just beginning to show a bit of patina. The future owner will be provided with a substantial folder of receipts that trace the work done to the car. Perhaps one of the reasons the MGA was so well received was the wide variety of colors available from the factory. Although it seems we only ever see red and white MGA's these days, originally the cars were finished in a fairly wide variety of different colors. This 1961 MGA 1600 is a true representation of what the MGA was, and was built to be, in period: A refined sporting car for the discerning purchaser who wanted comfort, safety, and speed all in one package. Not only does this car carry its original color scheme, but it has benefited from consistent ownership over its lifetime. The odometer shows 88658, and while we cannot confirm that to be the original mileage, it certainly seems plausible given the condition and originality of the car, and its limited use over the past 30 years. That dedicated ownership has resulted in a car that is straight and original; not filled with bondo or smashed up. The larger 1600cc motor, combined with the front disc brakes that were fitted with the new MGA 1600s in late 1959, turn this car into a more than capable driving machine. The red leather interior sets off the dove grey paint beautifully, and the grey top and skinny whitewalls finish it all off. A 1960 Dove Grey MGA Roadster with steel wheels sold last month at the RM Hershey auction for $24,200 plus a buyer's premium.
