I discovered this fine 1 owner 1981 Mercedes 300D 4-door sedan in Medical Lake, Washington. “Theo” its caretaker kept amazing care of this vehicle its entire life. The exterior color is original “Englischrot” a mellow apricot orange shade that is rare and beautiful to look at. The interior is finished in tan MB Tex vinyl that looks and feels like leather. The dash is perfect with the exception of a small crack in the vinyl near the ignition key (see photo). The wood trim, carpets, seats, rear deck behind the seat are nearly perfect showing very little signs of wear. The original factory first aid kit is not only present but has never been opened (see photo). The original owners manuals, are all present (see photo).
After we made our deal, Barb my partner, hopped in this fine German Diesel and drove it 589 miles home to our shop in Driggs, Idaho where we performed a full inspection and detail. My mechanic changed the oil and filter, refaced the front brake rotors, changed the gear oil, replaced the oil pan gasket and repaired a faulty window switch. Everything works on this vehicle, as it should. All the gauges work including the clock, the original Becker am/fm cassette works, as it should as well as the power antennae. The power sunroof opens and closes quickly and smoothly. The air-conditioning blows cold and the heat blows hot! The fine 3-liter Mercedes diesel is one of the most reliable power plants ever made with half a million mile life plus commonplace. With only 183,887 original miles this vehicle is barely broken in! Barb enjoyed almost 30 miles per gallon at 75 miles per hour all the way home! It starts easily, handles and brakes as a fine German automobile should and is an absolute joy to drive!
This Mercedes 300D still has the original Pirelli spare tire, which is still new, and looks to have never touched the ground! The original jack and tool roll are present (See photos). I think I was the first one to ever open the tool roll. The tools are new and perfect! This fine Mercedes will be sold with an additional set of 4 studded snow tires mounted on winter wheels (see photo) that are in very good condition with lots of tread remaining.
This fine vehicle is made to be driven although with very little work could be made into a “trailer queen” that would win “1st Place Preservation Class” at any vintage Mercedes event. We hope the new owner will drive it every day and enjoy it! This is one of the finest automobiles ever made!
