Vehicle Detail
1968 Cougar XR-7. Originally delivered to a Northern California dealership, this car spent it's life in California and Washington state. It was last registered/driven in 1983 when engine trouble left is resting in an enclosed, dry building for almost 30 years. I bought the car this past Spring, got it running, driving, stopping and starting. I replaced the gas tank, brake booster/master cylinder, all the fluids and other age related break down items. The car now runs very well and is a pleasure to drive. Lousy paint over a western dry/rust free body is the best way to describe this car. Rust free is a relative term so let me tell you what it means to me. There is no rust damage, not even a pin hole on the torque boxes and floor pans of this car. Much of the underside still retains it's factory sprayed red oxide primer and factory undercoating. The car was originally a light yellow color with the saddle interior. Sometime in the 1970's the car was painted dark green. The dark green paint is driver quality at best. There is evidence of blended paint color, paint chips and various fading. The paint color does not appear to be hiding any collision damage that I can tell, rather, painted over scrapes, knicks and dings. There are a series of door dings down each side of the car. The hood has a few dings/small bends along the edges as well. The only places that minor rust appears is just behind the rear window glass (see picture) and a few bubbles that are starting to form just above the rocker panel in a rear 1/4 panel (see photo) . There is a small rust hole in the underside lip of the deck lid as well. The car is, otherwise, a solid western car transplanted here to Michigan within the past year. Options include power steering, power disk brakes, air conditioning, the XR-7 package and a 6.5 litre 390 2V engine. The interior has been cleaned up with vinyl dye. The original carpet and gauge cluster remains in the car. All of the lights work, including the sequentials, marker lights and turn signals. One head light is burned out and the headlight covers work intermittently. The chrome is in worn but presentable condition. The time the car spent in storage stopped the clock on much of the aging process. Please note the custom location of the driver side mirror. The car drives very well. I've driven the car at highway speeds and around town. The car has nice torquey power associated with the 390 FE engine. The trans shifts smoothly and quietly. The car accelerates well and stops without pulling from side to side. This car is ready to drive "as is". Call me with any questions you may have. If you're serious abouth the car, call me and we can discuss any/every detail in question. I want you to be happy with your purchase. My cell is 248-867-3522.
