Vehicle Detail

1956 Packard Patrician, Black Plate California Car, Rust Free. This is a very special last year stand alone Packard. I can not find any rust that would require any patchs, just a little surface rust. The story is it had about $2000 worth of repairs done in Californa in 1992, it appears the engine was rebuilt, it has been hot tanked and has new freeze plugs, engine is free but I havent had time to get it running yet. The owner in CA didnt pay the bill so it was sold to recover the repair bill. It was shipped to Indiana and had been in dry storeage every since. I saw the car on a lift and I couldnt find any rust holes on bottom side either, for a car 56 yrs old it is in great shape and just needs some restoration to get it back on the road. So far as I can tell all of the car is there. I thought I would restore this car, but I just changed jobs and really dont have the time this project will deserve. For that reason I am selling NO RESERVE. If you have questions you may contact me directly at 317 440 1278. Thanks Doug On Nov-03-12 at 08:51:34 PDT, seller added the following information: There is an extra ignition switch with key, lock for trunk. I have this car for sale locally as well and reserve the right to end the auction early. This car also has the torsion leveling suspension as well.On Nov-03-12 at 15:24:15 PDT, seller added the following information: I have sold complete cars to buyers outside the US, The buyer is always responsible for shipping outside the US. This car would be a good car to be shpped anywhere so long as they understand it is a non-running car currently. I would be happy to assist anyway possible to help get the car loaded onto a carrier. On Nov-04-12 at 17:19:31 PST, seller added the following information: Price will have to go higher or I may just end the auction and have the car restored myself. I have not found a car of this era in as good overall condition as this 56 Packard. ThanksOn Nov-08-12 at 15:05:14 PST, seller added the following information: UPDATE 11/8/2012.....With the help of a good neighbor of mine, we installed a battery in the Packard and the auto leveling suspension was working which is amazing considering the car is 56 years old. We also did a tune up on the car and new plugs, cleaned the carb, and got the engine to run without much trouble at all. The engine runs very smooth just as you would expect from a Packard. There is what appears to be lifter noise from it sitting so long. The radiator had 3 or 4 leaks so we didnt run the engine very long, just a couple of minutes. Perhaps if the cooling system was addressed the lifter noise might go away after letting it run. We just bypassed the gas tank and fuel pump and used a fuel can and gravity to hook gas to the carb. It worked very well. The engine ran smooth and idled very well. So the engine runs and the leveling suspension works which is really cool. Also included is a battery and an original air cleaner that looks very nice, has air inlets on both sides of air cleaner, I have heard them referred to a batman air cleaner. The original jack and all of that is in trunk with the original liner. The negative terminal battery cable is missing. With this being a running car, price will have to go up or I will cancel auction and just keep the car. I dont have to sell the car.On Nov-09-12 at 18:20:30 PST, seller added the following information: I have a clear Indiana Title in my name. I also have all of the documentation from early 90's showing the mechanical work that was done in California, it does not specify what was done, just that it was about $2000 worth of work and showed the auction and the paperwork for that auction to satisfy the mechanic lien. I think the Black California plates are for 1966. After getting the engine to start so easily, I am convinced that my theory that the engine was rebuilt is true. The engine block looks like it was hot tanked and it has shiny freeze plugs. I did not try to put the car in gear to determine if transmission was working, was unsure of the brakes and didnt want to chance doing any damage to the car. I would put another radiator on the car or get that one repaired and then work on getting the lifter noise to go away. The engine and all of the wiring and all of that stuff is all there and doesnt appear to be messed with and is in good condition. The windshield washer glass bottle is there as well by the passenger firewall by the passenger fender. I dont see any major rust on the chrome bumpers, I dont see any holes, there may be some small ones under where the exhaust goes thru rear bumper. Call me with any questions, doing my best to provide an honest description of car. The bones of this car appear complete and very solid, just needs a restoration. Will make the high bidder a great car to begin a beautiful restoration.
