Vehicle Detail
This old truck belongs to "Cousin Steve" and he can be reached at (217)837-2772 if you want to ask him more questions about it. This is a 1945 Chevrolet Dump Truck. Yes, that's right a very rare war time "civilian" dump truck. Very few of us were around back at that time but I can just imagine the talking the old farmer had to do with the local officials to let him even buy the truck. Almost EVERYTHING was rationed back then and trucks were on the list. However he managed to do it, he kept it for a very long time until Steve manage to buy it. The farmer had used it sparingly and kept it shedded all it's life. He had just gone through one war where he couldn't get a truck and he was going to make this truck last. It has less than 21,000 miles and runs great. It still has the 6 volt system, what appears to be the original glass and all kinds of charm and warmth. It is missing the original seat that has been replaced with a piece of plywood and a couple of boat seats giving even us larger guys plenty of room behind the wheel. The metal on the cab, running boards and floor boards is in very good shape. I did see some "bubbleing' in the paint on the lower outside of the doors but the door bottoms looked good. The original fuel pump has been replaced with an electric pump. All lights including turn signals, running lights and headlights are in working condition. The brakes work, but are typically soft for the age of the vehicle. The hoist - dump works fine. It is currently licensed and has a clear title and used by Cousin Steve for recreational trips (grandkid rides, local parades, etc.). It's really a nice old truck but just a little big for his purposes. The truck is located 2 miles southwest of Newman, Il about midway between Springfield, Il and Indianapolis, In on Rt. 36. There is no BIG hurry to pick it up, it can stay here on the farm for 30 days as long as it's paid for in 7 days. This is a nice old truck that you could still use if you wanted to and/or make a parade or advertising vehicle out of it. Just don't plan on driving it home at 70mph, I can guarantee it won't do that.
