Vehicle Detail
1939 Packard Six Touring Sedan w/three speed on column w/o overdrive. Unrestored/unmolested condition. One repaint in the early 50's which is now tired. Small dents here and there, numerous scratches, flakey/missing paint areas but no body rust. Most of the original running board matting intact. Exceptional body panel alignment and doors and hinges open and close like a safe. One small rust spot on left passenger door sill, see photo. Chrome is fair, stainless is excellent. Under side extremely solid with no evidence of disassembly or repair. All glass excellent with no cracks. New rubber in fresh air vent. Original interior in place under seat covers and door panels installed at the time of repaint (early 50's). Very minimal signs of interior water staining, it appears that the original is better than the covers as observed through rips in said covers. Headliner good. Dash in good shape but was painted during the repaint. Most all gauges, lights, wipers, horn, heater and dash lights work. The gas gauge, clock, lighter, and odometer do not. There are service stickers on the door sill from the 50's. New brake linings/cylinders/hoses and most lines, rebuilt master cylinder, brake pedal nice and hard and stops straight. Recored original radiator and new hoses and water pump. Original water pump rebuilt by Art Gould and factory fan/pulley included. New belt, plugs, wires, cap, rotor etc. Exhaust is good but wrong type, new factory manifold back exhaust is included. New tires and battery. Engine is original and runs very well. It starts easily with no priming or added fuel pump regardless of temperature. The fuel pump is new, the gas tank was boiled out and recoated. It does smoke a bit when cold but clears on warm up. It drives as it should and the clutch, shifter and transmission are all good, new universal joints. It does not pull but there is some slight play in the steering, but not enough to bother you even at speed (about 55). Very slight lifter rattle at about 25 mph but none after. Does not use oil between oil changes. Does not overheat or stall on you for no reason, has never left me stranded. I have receipts for the above work. Also included is the original owners manual, a shop manual, voltage regulators, interior parts like ashtrays, lots of bulbs, and other misc. odds and ends, all I have will go with it. Please remember it is a 74 year old car and needs to be handled and treated as such. With that in mind, this car could be driven anywhere. You can continue resto as you see fit as you use it, or just enjoy it as it is. Thanks for looking.
