Vehicle Detail
For sale is my '87 Westy camper. This is the full-camper model that sleeps up to 4 (2 in lower fold-out, 2 in the pop-up). The body is in great shape, no rust and only the slightest of wear and tear in terms of scratches and small dings. That means no rust in the usual places like the dogleg under the front doors, seams and under the back window. Rear bumper has a few dents (see photo). Interior is in very good shape, seats are tear-free and fully functional, interior is clean with only normal wear evident, canvas in pop-up is in excellent condition, mosquito netting has several small tears which have been repaired so the bugs can't get in! (see photo), skylight is operational, the seals on the pop-top are in good shape (still waterproof) and the pop-top has no cracks and goes up and down smoothly and without any problems. Sliding side door works great, as does the rear door which opens and closes smoothly and stays up by itself (cylinders are in good shape). There is a complete set of curtains for all windows including the windshield. Engine runs strong and requires no oil added between changes (3-4000 miles). Automatic Transmission shifts smoothly and works without any problems, bumps or strange noises. It’s a typical VW in that it's slow going over mountain passes, but cruises along 65 mph at 3600 RPM all day long. I get about 18 MPG if I hold it at or below 65 MPH. Running 75 pushes the engine toward the top of the "green zone" which my mechanic says is ok, but . . . . hey, I only use it when I'm on vacation so I don’t need to get anywhere that fast. The power steering works fine. 97,720+ miles are original on both the engine and transmission. This van has 15-inch wheels with tires that are in good condition with about 8000 miles on them, and never been repaired. The van drives straight, brakes without pulling right or left and has never been wrecked. The water pump for the camper unit runs, as does the outside hook-up for a water hose. I’ve actually never used the water system in the van but everything seems to be in good shape. The propane stove works, and has been used. The 115V system works, as do the 12V lights. There is only one table, and it’s in good shape and works like it supposed to. All lights, including the head lights, brake lights, turn signals, dash and interior lights work. All windows work (manual roll-up), and the screens on the rear sliding windows are in excellent condition. Heat works GREAT front and rear. This van does NOT have Air Conditioning. Recent work includes: New rear heater core, water pump and thermostat which included a system flush and new coolant New brake master cylinder and booster, new rear wheel cylinders, cleaning and adjustment to brake pads, which included a system bleeding, flush) and new fluid. Replaced a gasket on transmission to stop small Automatic Transmission Fluid drip, which included a system flush and new ATF.Starter was replaced just last week. Known issues: Fuel vapor recovery system will occasionally allow a tiny amount of gasoline to overflow if you top the tank completely in hot weather. I mitigate this by not topping the tank off completely. Two windshield chips have been "repaired" by Novus. Refrigerator does not work. $500 deposit required within 24 hours of auction close. Payment must be in cash, cashier's check on a local (Sheridan) bank or wire transfer. You must pick up this van in person as the title needs to be signed over in person before a Notary.
