Vehicle Detail

If you're interested in a car from the muscle car era, this is probably one of the most unique vehicles from the time. This is a 42 year old Cougar convertible that looks and drives very well. I've owned it for the last 16 years, and it has spent most of that time in my garage. I've put new bushings in the front end, the brakes have been gone through and work very well, and the motor runs smoothly and has good power. It doesn't burn oil. The body on this XR7 is unique, in that it has the front end from an Eliminator model. Before I bought it, it apparently was hit and they replaced the grill, headlamp covers, hood and probably fenders with parts from an Eliminator. The body is okay; there are a couple of dents (see photos) and repairs that a 42 year old, 140,000 mile car can be expected to have. I haven't put any new dents on the car - they were all there when I bought it. I think it's 140,000 miles - the interior seats are in good shape, with enough wear on the vinyl that I'd say the odometer has clicked over once. The transmission is the FMX, and it shifts smoothly. The cast iron exhaust manifold on the right side cracked, so I have a set of full-length headers and dual exhaust from Summit on the car. It has a very nice sound - not intrusive, even with the top down. The distributor has a Pertronix Ignitor solid state ignition, with a Flame-Thrower coil. This is a factory-air car, but I removed the compressor and dryer as they weren't working. I have both parts. The convertible top was new when I bought the car, but that's 16 years ago - it still looks good, with no cracks or splits. There are a lot of things that can be done on the car, or it can just be driven and maintained in it's current state. The tachometer doesn't work - due to the way Ford designed the electical system it was routed through the tachometer, which was a weak spot. Right now we have the tachometer bypassed so the car will run. The speedometer cable is also currently disconnected - I had the dash / instruments out to fix the tachometer. The water temp, oil pressure and ammeter work - fuel gauge doesn't. Other work has been done on the car. You'll notice that it has Crown Vic 16" steelies with 215/65R-16 tires that do a great job of filling up those wheelwells. I still have the original 14 inch steel wheels that came on the car when I got it. This is a good looking and driving car that you'll enjoy driving and being seen in - good luck on your bid!
