Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is my beloved '83 242DL. Its a Special Delivery/Tourist and Diplomat sale car. Lived in Germany for the first part of its life. What makes this car rare is not so much that it is a 242, but the options it has (or doesn't have). This has a sunroof like a 740 (fully opens like a normal 240, or crank the handle another way and it'll vent like a 740-newer model). It is a Webasto sunroof, not a Golde. The car has a regular B23F na (non turbo) engine and M46 manual transmission. I am unsure of the real mileage as I had to replace the odometer several times, but my best guess is somewhere around 200K. The car has new brake pads on all 4, new timing belt and tensioner, new belts, new voltage regulator, coolant changed, brake fluid changed, new master cylinder, new fuel filter, new in tank pump, new Bosch main pump, new plugs/wires/cap/rotor, new air filter, fresh synthetic oil change, fresh transmission oil, fresh Mobil 1 rear axle oil, new flame trap kit, new oxygen sensor, new exhaust manifold gaskets/studs/nuts, freshly cleaned throttle body, new exhaust from header pipe to tail pipe, new exhaust manifold gaskets/studs/nuts and new valve cover gasket and half moon seal, new 4th gear overdrive contact switch in the transmission, new ball joints and front suspension bushings, new trailing arm bushings, and new rear brake lines, new heater and radiator hoses, and lastly, a new battery as of last week. It was also aligned at a Volvo specialist a year ago (not even 1000 miles ago). The car has power steering but NO FACTORY A/C. Never had it. I upgraded the clock in the cluster with the proper tach, and added the small clock. The car has 240 Turbo sway bars, IPD rear overload springs, and Virgo wheels (NEEDS TIRES badly!) One front tire had failed while in storage, so it has a 14" steel wheel and tire and it now. The handling is affected by this, and the tire, which is a spare, is out of balance. Volvo floor trays, upgraded door speakers (installed to look original). The car was hit on the pass. side at some point and repainted on that side... the paint is peeling on that side, but the body work seems good. The car needs a good repaint. The floors are rust free as is behind the wheels. There are a few minor surface spots. I got the car in 2002 from a friend in VA, and sold it in August 2004 to a fellow in NY, and bought it back in December 2005. I have owned it since. I used it in my wedding, and have a lot of sentimental value in the car, however, I no longer have indoor storage for it, and I put it outside under a cover a few months back, and well... it deserves better. It needs someone who will appreciate it and give it a good home. Someone who will keep it original and not hack it up. I'd love to get some indoor storage for it and then I'd keep it, but I don't think that will happen at this time. This car was in a photo shoot for a Target ad a few years ago. It is unknown to me (believe it or not) if they used the pictures, but to my knowledge they did not. I have pictures from that event below. I got paid $500 from Cooper Classic Cars in NYC for that shoot, and the car remains on file with them for future shoots. Just some of what I have for the car, that will be included: The original Foha 3-piece spoiler for this car from 1983 (NOT for sale separately) Hubcaps and original steel wheels several sets of 5 panel tail lights original radio replacement door panel for pass. door I think interior parts Replacement ignition harness for a Chrysler (white cap) unit ignition ecu (spare used) a whole set of glass (side, rear window, side rear windows, located at my property in DE, however, and am unsure when I will be able to retrieve them.) Brand new clutch cable Plus a ton of other spare parts and odds and ends for the car. There has been a lot of work done to the car and a lot will be included. The car is registered and insured and driven on occasion. It costs me about $60 a year to insure through J.C. Taylor classic car insurance. It passed Delaware safety and emissions test and I re-titled and renewed the tags as an antique, to my address in Delaware. The car is located in Westport, PA 17778. Car can be driven anywhere, but needs tires at the moment. This car needs to go to a good home. Someone who will appreciate it and keep it original. I am not interested in selling to someone who wants to hack it up, i.e. +T it, put a different motor such as a V8, cut the springs, make a convertible, make a boat, demolition derby it, dukes of hazard it, make it into a 4 door, etc. The car is not perfect, but is super rare. If you have any questions or interest, please ask! I may be willing to deliver, within a reasonable distance, for a fee... The car is being sold AS IS, WHERE IS! There will be NO REFUNDS, exchanges, returns, etc. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer ONLY. I will work with the buyer in any way that I can, but the last Volvo that I sold on here, to a guy in FL, was a nightmare. The buyer tried to get me to refund him because he could not arrange shipping at a cost that was agreeable for him, so that was somehow my problem. Long story short, the guy re-listed the vehicle and not only is using my pictures, but did not fully disclose everything the car needs as I did. Not good. I do my best to make sure buyers know what they are getting, and I will be more than happy to do what I can to make you happy, but I need to make sure that my bases are covered. Full payment MUST be received, in full, within 5 days. No exceptions or excuses. If you need me to work with you on this, please ask. I am a reasonable guy, and again, I will do my best to work with you in any way that I can. Happy bidding, and good luck! The below pictures are from the Target photo shoot On Sep-24-12 at 14:46:29 PDT, seller added the following information: Buy it now has been added, and lowered, reserve has also been lowered. Someone please give this rare 242 a loving home!
