Highlights:5-Speed Manual Transmission1.6L 4-Cylinder Diesel Engine running great with a new headAdded Temperature Gauge for safety on the long haulsWorking Standard Gauges, signals, and lightsNew Duralast 650 Cranking Amp BatteryComes with camper shellStandard size ball hitchNo serious damageClean Title135,000 Miles on OdometerTires are in good conditionDoors and handles work properly.Seat Upholstery is perfect. Was redone within the last year. Driver side seat was lowered to accomodate drivers over 6 feet tall.Windows work properly. The passenger side triangle vent is plexi, not glass.Seatbelts work properly.Paint job is in okay condition, no major damage, just normal 30 years of wear.Included with the vehicle are tools to remove the wheels. This car runs pretty solid, no major problems. The engine starts right up without any hesitation or extra cranking. The head was replaced within the last year due to bad compression. It now runs better than ever. Alignment is perfect. It seems as though all necessary functions are totally intact. It was used lightly about one to two times per week in the last few years mainly staying within 20 miles of its home in Long Beach. It has seen the freeway for long hauls (over 100 miles at a time) less than 10 times. The most it was ever driven was when it moved from Illinois to California in 2008.Reason for sale: This truck belongs to our church and we have outgrown our need for this vehicle. It was intended to eventually be converted to BioDiesel, but after converting two other Mercedes Diesels we took a drastic turn to hybrids within the last 3 years.Other things you need to take into consideration:No headliner3rd Gear is not super-smooth, it scratches a little bit when shifting into it, but still totally functional. (All other gears are super smooth)Radio and air does not work (to my knowledge they are disconnected)Both doors have a little bit of rust on the corners, as you can see in the pictures. TERMS OF SALE:This vehicle is being sold as-is, no warranties or guarantees except what is described here. I have done my best to represent the state of the vehicle and if you have any concerns, please coordinate with me, Justin, to view the vehicle. You can best reach me at redstarcf@yahoo.com or (925)642-7997.At the completion of the auction a $500 deposit will be due via PayPal within 48 hours and the vehicle must be paid in full IN CASH or MONEY ORDER/CASHIER'S CHECK and received within 10 days of the sale. For those with concerns about long-distance driving, be prepared with extra fluids for this vehicle. I have had good experience with it at distances over 100 miles, but because of its age, it is best to be cautious with circulation of coolant and preventing overheating. On Sep-19-12 at 10:17:35 PDT, seller added the following information: Someone pointed out that I used the word "Caddy" in the title of the auction and described the body style with that word. Apparently that reference may have been incorrect: "The Caddy nameplate was never used in the USA.The original Caddy was produced in South Africa until 2007.European Caddys were built in Volkswagen's plant TAS in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1982 till 1992." My apologies if I was misleading you by saying that word. Thanks for looking! <3On Sep-21-12 at 20:16:50 PDT, seller added the following information: A couple people have taken a look at the car since it was posted and they mentioned some things that I just was not really aware of as I am not a mechanic and I felt it necessary to post some of these things just in case I have misrepresented anything at all: Engine HEAD: The engine is definitely a bit louder now that the head was replaced. When I received the vehicle and it ran better than before I did not know that it was abnormal for it to be as loud as it is. I was told that the head might not have been as fine-tuned as it could be by the machine shop that worked with it, so although it runs really well, it may not be as fuel efficient as it could be, and it runs a bit louder than it should. I do not know if this is a major issue and as far as the driving, all I have experienced is an improvement. I am not a mechanic and the German Auto specialist who was working on it, Peytch Automotive, is local here in Long Beach and I have the receipt for the job in case the purchaser would like more information about the repair. Steering ALIGNMENT: In the description, I mentioned the alignment is good. It was actually pointed out to me, in detail, that the tread wear on the front tires is not totally consistent, so I may have been a bit off by saying that. I put that in the description based on my own experience of driving the vehicle and it feeling straight and centered as it should be. Naturally, because of the vehicle's age and the lack of power-steering, I felt it was my best judgement to say that the alignment was good. As well, after a much closer look, I would judge that the 2 front tires have about 40% of their life left. DASHBOARD: The dashboard is definitely not in the best condition, it has a couple big cracks in it, which I'm pretty sure is visible in the photos, but it has been pointed out none the less. PAINT: The paint job is only in fair condition. This vehicle seems like it hasn't been repainted since it was manufactured and the 30 years is showing. CAMPER SHELL: The strut that holds up the camper shell window is non-existent, so a piece of wood is provided to hold the window up in the case of loading or tailgate partying ;) OIL: I just noticed that the oil is about ready for a change, so for an extra $30 on top of the sale price I will make sure you can drive out of here with fresh oil and a new filter. Anyhow, what most of this boils down to is that this vehicle still needs work in order to be a sustainable piece of equipment so please be aware that it is nowhere near perfect, but it will be good to anybody that is willing to stay aware of its needs. Thanks again for all your consideration and please feel free to come and take a look at the vehicle. <3
