Hello. I am selling my 1997 Mercedes Benz SL500 AMG sport edition. Rare AMG option for 1997 model year (Sculpted front and rear bumpers and rocker panels as well as staggered 18 X 8 front 18 X 9 rear AMG monoblock alloy wheels, comes with a full size spare, for a total of 5 monoblock wheels). Only a few thousand were produced in 1997 with the AMG package, but 1999 and beyond saw almost every model turn out as a sport, so those are not so rare, AND the engine that replaced this one for 199+ has less horsepower and 16 spark plugs! What happened Benz? Chrysler happened... This car has Mercedes Benz then-new 5 speed Automatic transmission with driving style adaptable electronics and weather selectable drive-gear actuation. It is the desired color combo, Silver metallic with black leather interior. The paint is shiny and glossy with no clear coat fading, the exterior and structural body is free of any dents or accidents. The interior is perfect. However, the center armrest latch is missing (common issue). Cosmetically the car shows great and turn heads and gets compliments WHEREVER I go. Mechanically, I have been going through it, to suit my taste in components... I have had installed within the last 2 months with receipts; New Bilstein front Struts and new strut bump stops and dust boots and strut mounts, New rear Bilstein shocks, New steering damper rod, New german Suplex Front coil springs. It rides like new, corners flat and doesn't squat when you hit the gas. New OEM (Original equipment manufacturer) driver side motor mount, Spark plugs, 2 Air filters, oil filter, Lubro Moly 10W-60 Synthetic racing oil change (look it up if not familiar with the brand). 1 ignition coil. 2 New Nankang Ultra sport NS II 245/40 18 inch front tires( matching rear tires). Plus a bunch of other stuff that I will list later once I get to my receipts. This car runs great and handles beautifully. The engine is ultra smooth, quiet and has alot of power. No leaks. It has been upgraded with the early -92' 400E aluminum engine camshaft oilers which is the achilles heel of all these engines. They will NEVER wear out or have to be replaced (the plastic ones fail time after time). The interior is perfect. No rips or tears anywhere. The sound system has been completely rewired to a SONY CD/MP3 with 6 CD changer in trunk, with a Kenwood amp powering the inside speakers, and set up for an add-on amp for the addition of a bass unit in the trunk. Everything works. Power windows. Ice cold A/C. The convertible top material is in perfect condition. No rips or tears. I don't think it has ever really seen the sun. I always take the hard top off and leave it inside as the previous owner did. The hard top hydraulic cylinders are in great condition with NO leaks. The convertible top cylinders are also in good condition with no leaks. No issues with the mechanicals of the soft top. No problems to report at this time. No overheating, smoking or knocking. The transmission shifts firmly and smoothly into all gears. No check engine lights or any other kind of dash light on, they all come on, and go out, after you start the car. The car has current registration and carries a clean title. It is without engine or transmission problems. I give this car the OK to drive cross country for you buyers from other states or time zones. Sadly, It is time to sell.
