OK, let's try this again, but no reserve involved. Highest bid at $2000 or higher wins! I never wanted to be one of those people that have to write an eBay listing about a car project that they started but now find themselves without the time to finish it. But here I am… almost 10 years and 2 zip codes after this “father/son” project started on a 1979 Camaro. This is best viewed as a project car with a fair amount of work already done that would make this a good project car. All the new parts would make this a great parts car. The car is not fully assembled, and a few areas will require metal replacement/repair to correct some of my failed attempts to do this by myself (more on these areas later). This car is actually a combination of two Camaros: a Z-28 which was one of my first significant eBay purchases back in the Fall of 2003, and a Berlinetta with no drive train which I needed to buy because the Z-28 seller failed to mention that most of the rear subframe and underside of the car had rusted away. So the Z-28 became the donor car and the long process of tearing down and converting two non-working cars into one that runs began. Every nut and bolt was taken off of the Berlinetta, after which is dunked in an acid bath to remove the paint and body filler. That process uncovered a rear quarter panel (driver side) which had been not been completely stitch welded onto the car (see pictures). A new rear quarter panel was installed along with a filler piece borrowed from the Z-28 (see picture). The automatic transmission that came with the Z-28 was sold and replaced with a rebuilt Saginaw 4 speed transmission. While the mechanical components all seem to be working fine (other than the noisy transmission noted below), there are several issues on the body that are worth noting: Most of the rear quarter panel repair turned out OK, but the area above the driver side tail light did not come together correctly (see picture). I have purchased a replacement piece (see picture) which is not installed. The outer section of the rear wheelhouse on the driver’s side was also replaced. The seam between the inner and outer wheelhouses was covered in fiberglass – maybe a nice idea, but the surface came out pretty rough. The passenger side rocker panel had significant rust holes in it after the dunking, so I tried to address this with a purchased cover over the old one. This seemed to work pretty well until I test fit the new front quarter panel. The disruption to the body line looks pretty bad to my eyes. This cover will need to be removed and the original rocker panel either repaired or replaced. I can send more pictures to anyone interested in getting more details on this area of the car. The lower front edge of the passenger side rear quarter panel was mostly missing after the dunking. An attempt to repair this with patch metal and probably some fiberglass (too long ago to remember) was made, but like the rocker panel cover it messed up the body lines from the door back. A metal patch panel will need to be purchased and installed for this to be repaired properly. I saw one on eBay recently for $36 plus shipping. I can send more pictures for on this area as well.
