Vehicle Detail
Model A Project: Leatherback rust free body, Rebuilt engine and transmission, straight frame and axles, plus many good componentsI bought this in three separate purchases with the intent of making some project car; kept changing my mind on what to build. I bought only good components for this project; really good are the engine, the frame and the body. Other items are salvageable with some effort, some items missing. The engine was rebuilt about 7 years ago by a professional shop in California, stored in dry storage since with oil kept in the cylinders. It is a long block, no carb or ignition. Transmission was rebuilt by the same shop and mated to the engine, has chrome shift lever. This alone is worth more than my reserve. Engine number is A1242509.The body is rust free, never had any rust, no bondo. The original paint has been stripped, body sanded and primered. Gas tank has been cleaned and treated. Doors have not been touched; still have some original fabric on them. Does not have door handles. The wood members are generally reuseable as is and it comes with a few pieces copied from original patterns; a couple of small pieces may not be there and some others will be good for patterns. The headlights are solid, just need sanding and painting. Hood is solid with no rust, also just needs sanding and painting. Frame and axles are rust free, never had rust, they have been cleaned and painted as have the axles. There are no brake components of any kind. Steering box is rebuilt, the steering wheel and shaft are there but no column surrounding the shaft [have a source if you want it]. The 5 wheels are good, need blasting and paint but the spokes are straight. Tires are worthless but generally hold air. Can not be towed with these tires, only rolled into trailer. The fenders are from another vehicle and will take some work. The metal is solid, but has surface rust which is hidden by the primer applied to protect them, there is no cancer but there are a some dings and welded repairs, no bondo found. Same for the side panels and running boards, but they can be salvaged, unless you want a rat-type car, then they are perfect as is because they are solid. [At one point I was going to build a mechanically perfect car with a ratty, old car look to it.]. Reserve is low, about half the cost of a fresh rebuild engine alone. I guess I had fun dreaming about the different vehicle types I could have made, but cannot do it anymore. Comes with a New Jersey title for a coupe if you want it.
