Vehicle Detail
Rare 1967 Pontiac 2+2. Billed as the "big brother of the GTO" by Pontiac, this is one of 1,768 produced in 1967. Based on information obtained from the previous owner, he was able to determine this was the 92nd 2+2 to roll off the line in 1967. This was also the last year of the 2+2 package offered by Pontiac (1964 - 1967). The car was purchased new from a dealership in Dayton Ohio (still have the original license plate frames from the dealer). Stayed with the original owners until the early 80's. Purchased in the early 80's and driven infrequently by a guy just outside of Indianapolis. He passed away in 2006. The car passed to his daughter. She let it sit outside for 2 years. I picked it up off of Ebay in the summer of 2008. The car still has the Protect-O plate, random bits of documentation that seem to validate the 50,000 original miles (oil change receipts, tire receipt, registration, etc.). I ran it through PHS (Pontiac Historical Society) a few years ago and the VIN came back as a true 2+2 with all the following options: Electric Antenna, Rear Defrost, Engine reel out light, cruise control, adjustable driver mirror, Interior Map Lights, etc. Condition Description: Interior - New carpet throughout. New Fischer carpet rails. New front seat covers, foam etc. Defects - Dashpad is cracked. Headliner has small tear in rear. Everything else is standard wear and tear for a 45 year old car. Exterior - I believe it's the original paint. I buffed and polished the paint from a dull condition to the shine it has now. The paint is by no means perfect and could probably use a refresh. It's great from about 10 ft. Not so great close up under a microscope. It appears to have some filler in the rear quarters, but I'm not a body expert, so I don't know how much. The bumpers are in great shape. Some of the pot metal near the windshield is showing some signs of aging and pitting, as is the driver mirror. There is a sun spot in the lower corner of the windshield on the passenger side. Mechanical - The engine (428 c.i.) runs great. I just took it up to a dyno a few weeks ago and it ran very close to factory specifications. 200 horse at the rear wheel. I believe the original rating was 360 at the crank, so that seems pretty accurate. The technician was surprised how advanced the timing was set up (24 degrees I believe), but it didn't ping at all (running on 92 octane pump gas). Just to be sure, I helped it out recently by running a mix of 110 and 100. It still has the original Quadrajet carb, intake, exhaust manifolds, etc. Everything is bone stock original under the hood. The cruise control does not work, but I haven't taken the time to investigate why. I joke with my wife all the time, "You can pick up a lot of dudes in this car." It turns heads wherever we go, people are always taking pictures of it, asking what it is, and then follow that up with "Sweet car man." It's different than what you normally see out there and isn't your standard Camaro, GTO, Mustang, etc. The car is also for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells locally first. If you are serious about buying it, I'm serious about selling it. We'll leave it at that.
