You are bidding on a 1990 Mercedes-Benz 500SL Base Roadster Convertible 2-Door 5.0L CA Car SMOGED. Please do not bid unless: * You have an active Paypal account in good standing* You are planning on buying the car General:The car looks great, runs well, shifts great and handles superbly. This is the perfect Southern California summer car. I've been driving it daily with no serious problems, just minor stuff. I believe in disclosing everything positive & negative. If you are expecting a mint condition 1990 SL, do not bid on this one. My price is more than fair for the car you are getting. The Good Stuff: * 166K Miles is very low for this year & model * The car starts right up every time, no problem * Brakes are fantastic. Entirely new front system * There are no serious leaks of any kind. No drips underneath the car * Transmission Shifts beautifully & tightly, as it should. * The car gets 30MPG on the open freeway. Just drove it across the state & tested the mileage. No problems at all * The tires are in excellent shape. They are expensive low profile Michelins, not cheap at all. I'd estimate them to be at around 80%, I think * It has the beautiful Mercedes Chrome wheels in good shape. No serious abuse or rashes. * The front end is perfectly aligned. No pulling of any kind * Just had the oil changed * The dash is in perfect shape, no cracking no tears * Interior looks good for it's age. Not perfect, but very good * It has the upgraded super bright white headlights Xenon HID High Low Beam Super White HeadLight Headlamp Light Bulb Globe * The car is fast. When you step on the gas, it really moves. While running there isn't any smoking at all. * Comes with matching hardtop. * The car has the factory alarm. * The power windows work perfectly * No check engine light, no error warning lights are on. * Passed CA Smog with no problems * Inspected. I just had the entire car inspected by a Mercedes specialist * New Catalytic Converter just installed * New belt tensioner: Now the car is whisper quiet, no squealing * New Brakes: I just had the entire front braking system replaced including new rotors. The car stops on a DIME * New Front End Sway Bar: This helps the car handle corners like a Porsche. Super tight * New Shocks: The previous owner just put on new Bilstein shocks on the front so the car handles like a DREAM Imperfections Worth Mentioning: * The Tops: The collapsible convertible tops isn't working. It will require service to get working. For me, I just use a waterproof car cover. Or a garage would be optimum. Judging by the overall exterior condition, the car must've been garaged for most of it's life. Also, it comes with a matching customized hard top. Buyer assumes responsibility for reattaching hard top. It was pretty straight forward removing it. * Hard Top Headliner:The condition of the exterior of the hard top is excellent. But the headliner is drooping. Now that it is off, re-adhesing it should be easy. * Exhaust:When the car is totally cold, upon starting it there is just one small puff of smoke. After that one puff, the car is totally smoke free. I did have this looked at & was told that valve seal #3 was probably the culprit. There is no coolant leaking into the engine at all. The head gasket is not compromised at all. My 15 year long Mercedes mechanic said that the engine could probably go another 50,000 miles without anything major necessary. If you wanted this addressed apparently a valve job would solve what my mechanic & I call a very minor symptom. * Locks:The car locks through the trunk. The driver's side lock doesn't function. But thru the trunk, everything locks & unlocks as it should. * Instruments:There are some instrument cluster issues. The dash lights stopped working. Hopefully it's a fuse somewhere but they just stopped working last week. Also when you use the left turn signal sometimes it makes the working gauges reset. Kind of weird but I got used to it. * Gauges:The Oil Pressure gauge works intermittently. But it does have perfect oil pressure. It just the needle that acts funny. The oil pressure warning lights still work & I had my mechanic triple verify that the oil pressure is working all the time. * Optional Audiophile Stereo SystemAlso, currently there is a monster audiophile Alpine with USB/Boston Acoustics/2 subs stereo installed. The Buy It Now price is without the stereo system. If you want this entire system to be included, you will have to add $500 to either the BIN price or the final auction price. * Odometer:I know this sounds odd but the odometer just stopped working this week. It was working perfectly up until then. So I feel pretty confident the 166K mileage is very close to the actual mileage. * Rear Bumper Faded:The back bumper has a little paint fading to it (pictured). Other than that I'd give the exterior a 9.5 out of 10. * Leather Seats:The seat leather has a few minor tears. But they don't look terrible. * Acceleration:When you give this car gas it takes off. Serious power. But it's worth mentioning that occasionally there can be a slight hesitation when/if you lightly touch the gas pedal. It doesn't ever stall and never does it once the car accelerates. Personally, I prefer just to hit the gas pedal and zoom... * Emergency Brake:The emergency brake doesn't work either. It was quoted to me to be about a $250 job but I just never got around to fixing it since I live in super flat Los Angeles.
