Vehicle Detail
1954 Oldsmobile 88 4 dr sedan. Automatic but no power steering or power brakes. Just over 80K miles. When I bought it, it had just been repainted (almost all the trim was removed first). There is a paint chip about the size of a nickel under a molding on a rear door. There is a small nick on the bottom of the windshield under the right side wiper. Most chrome is original and at least very good. There is a light scratch on the right side of the front bumper. The pot metal (ornaments, emblems) is almost perfect. The rear bumper has been replated. The chrome on the bumper guard near the tail pipe is faded. The seats have been covered with very well fitting seat covers. The headliner is new. Seat belts have been added. After I bought the car, I beefed up the suspension with new heavy duty springs, rebuilt the rear springs and had the front shocks rebuilt with heavy duty valving. New Diamondback radial whitewalls. The car handles much better than when new. I have replaced/rebuilt: carburetor, fuel pump, radiator, water pump, timing chain. starter, exhaust system, wiper motor, heater control valve, wiper arms, battery, hoses, belts, etc. Gas tank removed, cleaned and sealed with a new sending unit. Most small rubber gaskets/bumpers replaced. Door weatherstrips are original; those on the front door are not great but are serviceable (readily available new). I installed an AM/FM/cassette radio using the original knobs (original radio goes with the car). The car can be driven anywhere - I have taken it on a number of several hundred mile trips. I have the fender skirts that came on the car originally and they go with the car. Owner's manual and shop manual included as well as all receipts. Also have extra complete dash clusters with all gauges and clock. The valve lifters are a bit noisy after the car is warmed up - a notorious problem with Olds engines of this period. I had another '54 Olds with only 9K miles that did the same thing. The hydramatic shift points on these cars are controlled solely by throttle linkage adjustments. I have been unable to find anyone who really knows these transmissions so I've done the adjustments myself. Sometimes the 3-2 shift is too soon - needs the touch of an expert. I have added some pictures of the underside and the engine compartment. The engine compartment is clean but needs a proper detailing - it has been painted with incorrect colors. I have the stencils for the valve cover lettering.
