Vehicle Detail

1985 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia CamperTHIS IS THE WESTY YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR, YOU WON'T FIND A NICER EXAMPLE OUTSIDE OF A MUSEUM!READ the description, LOOK at the pictures and BID with confidence... You are going to have so much fun in this camper, 1st let me clarify "one owner". I've just bought this van from the original owner prior to the 1st auction last week. As the van was not as well received in my household as I thought it would be (one of those seek forgiveness instead of ask permission situations), I am selling it on as fast as I bought it. It is really a shame because this van really is a once in a lifetime find for a Westy fan. She is truly a time machine. The person I bought it from (here on out referred to as "the Owner") was meticulous in his use, care, and documentation of the VW as anyone could be with a vehicle. I will list the important details to help you understand how well cared for this vehicle really was throughout its lifetime. 1 owner from new (prior to my purchase) The Title is clear. She is rust free, you won't find one that is more clean.72,XXX original documented miles Always garaged it's entire lifeAll service records since 70 miles (including all booklets, brochures, literature and window sticker from purchase)The owner never used: the stove, the sink, the fridge and the water holding tanks This Westfalia has factory air conditioning She is pre-wired to run a second inline batteryWhile she doesn't blow cold at the moment(I was going to update her to the new gas so that she would blow cold but was advised to let the new owner decide, its a $30 part)The fans blow strong as new (of course all of the switchgear is in perfect working order)She is straight as an arrow down both sides (she has one scratch to speak of, above the rr tire)There is no rust anywhere (see photos of undercarriage)The interior is immaculate (there is one mark in the carpet, smaller than a dime)All screens are perfect some are still rolled as new Curtains are all perfectAll of the screens are perfect with no holes Not a problem with the cloth seats anywhereThe pop up camper functions easily and perfectlyThere are no stains or funny odors from the pop upAll latches, knobs are present and function Extra captains chair that swivels 360 degrees in the second rowThe rubber around the windows and doors is soft and not crackedThere are no cracks in the dashThe bumpers are straight and chrome is super shinyThe owner purchased an extra wheel cover because 1 is scratchedNon-smoking VW =>I have the original jackI have 2 full sets of keys, one that looks brand new!She starts right up with the turn of a keyThe engine runs smooth, she shifts easily with no problemsand I wish my daily driver would brake as well as this van brakes, they really work well. If you would like to email me, I will send you a complete list by date and mileage of all the repair and maintenance work that has been done to the van. It is truly incredible the amount of information the original owner kept. He even has the newspaper ads that were cut out around the time he went and bought it! As you can imagine, I am going to be asking a premium for this vehicle. This Westy truly is a time machine. The interior is as if you were stepping into 1985 on the showroom floor. Charge up the AC and she will be ready to go! My reserve price is commensurate with the quality and condition of this Westy. This van is for the true VW fan that has the resources to buy the best. There will truly be no disappointments with this Westy camper! That being said, my reserve is well below where it was last time. Bid with confidence as I believe it is going to sell this time around without a doubt! Some of the big maintenance/repair items that have been completed already: New coolant lines front to back Coolant reservoir sensor New Clutch Master/Slave CylinderNew Flywheel, pressure plateNew entire clutch assemblyAll scheduled oil and lube Fuel Line/Return Line/Feeder New Base Housing New Head Gasket Exhaust Manifold Gasket Collar 15k, 30k, and 60k mile service performed on time This isn't close to all of the service that has been done to the VW, just the highlights. Most of this has been done in the last 5-7k miles! I have a folder full of receipts for all service since vehicle was new/purchased Bought: Dick Dean VW Subaru 9/6/85 St. Louis MO There is 100+ pictures of this Volkswagen (including the undercarriage and engine bay) located at flickrdotcomforwardslashphotosforwardslashcraigdillow. Remember you must put a www. in front of all that and spell it all as it is there for it to work! I am going to require a $500 deposit through Pay-pal within 72 hours of the winning bid, and the remainder within 7 days. If you need longer to pick up the vehicle, arrangements could be made for the short term. I am not involved with the shipping process (although I could help with loading if need be). The owner said that he took the van out 3-4 times a month to keep the battery up and rotate the tires but it has not had any serious mileage on it in several years. While I am not worried about this around town, it might be something to think about before setting off across country, again the van is pushing 30, remember that. There is no warranty, vehicle is sold as is where is.Known issues:More often than not, the temp gauge light stays on after ignition regardless of the temperature of the engine. Of course there is a needle to see that the temperature is not critical. Simply because of its age, the rubber around the pop up will need to either be re-glued or replaced, it is slowly losing its adhesion. Again I was advised to let the new owner deal with this as they will, that way you will have confidence in the repair. The little door that covers the electrical plug in on the side is missing. The owner said it just popped off in his hand one day.The scratch and mark in carpet mentioned above. And again only because of their age, you may want to take a look at the tires. They probably have less than 1000 miles on them but because they are some years old at this point, you may want to replace them.Remember this vehicle is pushing 30 years old! While I have tried my best to describe everything, please look over the pictures carefully. There may be some fading on the exterior of the van in various small places just due to its age not sun damage, as well as scratches in the usual places of loading/unloading a few possible road chips. IF this vehicle were to be painted she could be a 98%+ VW! Aha, the vehicle report is showing that the owner neglected to mention a fender bender dated shortly after they purchased the van. I can assure you that whatever damage there was has been 100% corrected. The vehicle seals properly when the doors shut, all gaps are correct and it tracks straight down the road. I will search the documents for any collision repair estimates or receipts. She really is a beauty, please do not for a minute think this takes anything away from her, this is still a premiere chance at a pristine vehicle. I did find a repair estimate in the stack of records that he had for me. It looks like it was a superficial fender bender that happened shortly after they purchased it back in the 80's. Someone just bumped into them from the rear. The majority of the cost was a replacement of the bumper and rear door and the cost to change over the existing glass. Nothing that would affect the drive-ability of the vehicle or function of any of the major systems. Please look over the pictures carefully, they speak for themselves. She really is a great little van. I value my 100% feedback on eBay and as such have done my best to describe the vehicle to the best of my ability. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email. I will get back to you promptly. I will also say that I have dropped my reserve price from the last time this was at auction. Please only bid if you intend to complete the purchase. Thanks for looking, happy bidding.
