The second owner bought the car from the original owner in 1950; the car had sat from 1950 to 1983 and had never been rained on. My father began the lengthy process of restoring the car to original condition. He hand-built and balanced a proper, completely stock 59-AB Ford Flathead V-8 engine and heads, replaced the wheels with original, and had Chris’ Auto Body (who have done Concourse-level restorations) in Lambertville, NJ take the frame off and repair, replace and refinish every bolt, nut, tube and wire on the car. For the final finishing touch, he shipped the car to LeBaron-Bonney for a completely original interior (if you can find a late 1980s Hemmings and look at the LeB-B ads, you will see the interior of a 1946 Ford, and on the driver’s door, there is an out-of-place piece of stainless steel, and that is my father’s Ford). When it came home, it was simply stunning; smelled like a new car inside. The car was registered, but never driven more than a few feet. It is 99.999% original. My father was positively manic about being original. The single only other thing that isn’t original is that he put a 1950 Buick bombsight hood ornament on top of the normal hood ornament; it’s barely noticeable, and does give you an interesting perspective when driving around.
