I own a classic antique limousine and car hire business. This truck has seen a lot of requests for use in weddings. People love the original rustic look of the truck. Unfortunately, to be safe and legal, I find that commercial liability insurance for carrying passengers for hire has just become too great, so I must reluctantly pass this vehicle on to the next deserving owner. When I bought this truck, it was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted an old truck that would be mechanically sound and reliable, but one that retained its original warts and patina. As you can see from the pictures, this baby fits the bill. The exterior is a bit rough, and I love it just like that, with all its minor dings, blemishes, and surface rust. The frame and cab are quite solid, but the aft edges of each front fender, and bottom of each door do have some rust. The remainder of the rust on the cab and exterior is just very superficial, nothing structural. The floor pans are reasonably solid, but with a couple of small sections that have been repaired. The interior is in really excellent condition. I have added new seat covers (original style material and pattern), new OEM rubber floor mat, and seatbelts. ALL of the light tan-colored metal inside the cab (door facings, window trim, etc., have been removed, stripped, and professionally repainted. ALL of the instruments function perfectly, including the door lights. The transmission shifts smoothly and firmly, never jumping out of gear, and the electric overdrive functions flawlessly (I rewired the entire O/D system with period-correct cloth-covered wiring). The engine compartment as well has been significantly cleaned up and restored. I've added a rebuilt water pump and new exhaust manifold to replace the cracked and leaky old one. This truck is a rare 3/4 ton model, and can really haul the bacon with the larger engine that came with these beefier trucks. Spare and jack are part of the package. Additionally, this truck is equipped with Studebaker's signature "Hill Hold" feature. Basically, anytime you have the clutch fully depressed, it automatically locks the pressure in the brake line so that you can take your foot off the brake pedal without the truck rolling. The brakes are released automatically as the clutch in engaged. This feature is hooked up and works flawlessly. This is not a barn or field-find truck, but one that is driven on a regular basis, has been driver-proven and ready to provide immediate fun and utility. That said, in recent months it has been about once a month that I fire the old babe up and take it for a spin. Without fail, that little 6 volt starter turns the engine over a few revolutions and then she roars to life, and sits there purring, waiting your command! For those viewers who have in mind restoring a Studebaker back to original condition, this would make an excellent candidate. I have acquired 2 solid and reasonably ding-free doors, 2 front fenders (same rust-free condition) and a very straight and complete front grill assembly. These would be available to the buyer as a complete package for an additional sum of $400, and could be loaded in the bed for transport along with the truck. This is a great truck, and one that I have spent a lot of time and money bringing to its current roadworthy status. I'm fully confident that the successful bidder will be pleased with the purchase, and offer a full no-questions-asked refund of any deposits within 7 days after the auction ends.
