Vehicle Detail
You know those ads where the true condition isn't shared in the listing? This isn't one of them. I've had this car since 2007 when my wife bought it from a friend of a friend on a whim. We drove it for three summers and the only repair was to replace the master brake cylinder. I also replaced the original steering wheel with a 12 inch diameter after market so I could drive without it rubbing against my thighs. The original will be included. As I was putting the vehicle up for the winter in 2010 I noticed some rust along the rocker panel on the passenger side. I put it on jack stands for a better look and was amazed at how much of the frame had rusted away. After some poking and pulling I couldn't understand what was holding this car together. I'm not a welder or metal working guy but in my opinion the frame is not salvagable or safe and so it's not been driven since. There is rust in the lower area of the rear fenders but otherwise the body panels are in good condition. Chrome trim is good to very good. Gauges all work. The engine is strong and starts easily. It uses two six volt batteries which have gone bad and I have not replaced but a traditional 12 volt battery can be placed on the floor behind the seats in order to get it started. I have a spare engine block, head, crankshaft and various other parts that came with the car when I acquired it that will go with it. The interior was entirely replaced at some point. It is well done but not original. Lots of great parts or perhaps a welding wizard can resurrect the frame. On Jun-03-12 at 06:40:10 PDT, seller added the following information:I received the following information from an avid MGB owner/enthusiast who examined the photos but has not personaly inspected the car. "What you think is the frame are only 2 rails. The entire structure from the firewall back + front inner fenders are part of it. It is a unibody in U.S. terms. The metal roof only adds to it's strength. It's all built around the firewall structure and trans/drive shaft housing - called a back bone frame. Very light and strong!" It is my hope that this car find its way to a new owner who will repair it as opposed to scavenging it but the "invisible hand" of the free market will determine it's highest and best use by way of this auction.
