Vehicle Detail
This coral red 1959 Fiat Jolly 600 is the gem of them all. This 4 speed car was sold at the 2006 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction for a record price at the time of $43,200. (See link below) Since then, other Jollys have sold for much higher prices. I purchased this Jolly from the Barrett-Jackson buyer and have since refined certain details like replacing the factory rubber floor cover, replacing emblems with correct ones and adding a highly rare jack/tire changing kit that was missing. I had the engine rebuilt to produce more pep than the original 22 HP motor giving it added zip to the driving experience yet maintaining the factory look and originality. The “600” Jolly is more car than the “500” Jolly that it is commonly confused with. For one, the “600” is larger and has a 4 cylinder water cooled engine. The “500” Jolly is smaller with a 2 cylinder air cooled engine. Plus, the “600” has what is known as the desirable “surfboard” shape side body panels by the rear seat. I’ve been told by the mechanic who specializes in Fiat Jollys and who did the engine rebuild on this car that it is one of the nicest 600 Jolly he has come across. With the original patina wicker seats, this car is definitely a keeper for the Italian or Fiat car collector or for anyone who wants something that very few have. However, be prepared to turn a lot of heads and have your picture taken with cell phone cameras when driving around in this street legal road queen. Now for the big question, why am I selling it? Simple answer: I’m unloading a lot of toys including three other collector cars that I no longer drive much and that are taking up too much room. I will try and answer any questions you might have with my limited mechanical knowledge. 2006 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction listing for this car: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=94&aid=53&pop=0 Some Fiat Jolly History: In 1958 Fiat shipped a number of Fiat 600s to the Italian design house Ghia for conversion into the Jolly. Featuring a chopped off roof, wicker seats and the option of a fringed top to shield occupants from the sun, these cars were originally made as “beach” cars for use along the Mediterranean and as portable land transportation for the large yachts of the wealthy (Aristotle Onassis owned one). With a cost of nearly double that of a standard "600", they were made in a very limited number. It is believed that fewer than 100 exist today, each one being unique in that the factory used a variety of cosmetic parts that were available at the time each car was built. 32 Jolly cars were used as taxis on the island of Catalina off the coast of Los Angeles in the USA in the years 1958–1962.
