Vehicle Detail

1977 Ford E250 - QUADRAVAN 4WD This is a pretty rare find, this is a 1977 Ford E250 Quadravan 4wd, Ford Motor Company sent these out to Pathfinder Equipment Co, before they were sent to the Ford Dealers. This is one of the earliest ones I have seen, and very attractive with the Round Headlights. This Pathfinder has DSO 86. This DSO was a Ford Recreational Pool, and Pathfinder would get these Vans from Ford Motor Company Direct and did the Quadravan 4x4 Conversions, and then they would be sent on to Ford Dealers to be sold as new vehicles. Pathfinder did not do conversions on any perviously sold units or customers used vehicles, at this time they were only new vehicles for Ford. There is actually a Quadravan website that tells the full story. This is considered a Factory Ford 4x4 built by Pathfinders. Some other companies started doing conversions in the 1980's, but Pathfinders partnered with Ford on these vehicles. Very hard to find in this vintage and condition. This Van is the perfect canvas for lots of folks. This Quadravan, has been well cared for all of its life, it has been used, but never abused. Bought brand new at Tonkin Ford, Portland, Oregon. The gentleman had it special ordered, and they got it from the Pathfinder plant in California. It had a $12500 MSRP on it when it was new. This gentleman loved this van, and cared for it up until 2007. He was in a wheel chair most of the years that he owned it, and could not do the work himself, so he trusted his Ford garage to service it. He changed the oil, every 2 months or 2,000 miles. He did most of his work at the Suburban Ford, I have over 200 Reciepts of various upkept on this van through the years, this is not a typo, I have over $35,000 in routine and maintenance repair reciepts around 200 of them for this van. If it needed wipers, lightbulbs, brakes, belts, axles rebuilt, hoses you name it, he fixed it. I have never owned a vehicle that has the stack of reciepts that this one has, they are 3-4" thick. It runs excellent, you can drive this vehicle anywhere right now, it is very dependable. The odometer reads 80,697 it is only a 5 digit in 1977, assume it has rolled over at least once, it is 35 years old. It has Cold AC, and it seems to work good. The body is in great shape, it is originally Orange, and has been painted a few times since new. It actually is an Orange Metallic, which looks great out in the sun. The body is in great shape, and paint has a nice gloss to it. Overall, from about 15-20' away it looks great, when you come closer, there are some small chips on it, that have been touched up. The largest on is on the top of the hood. Most of the other ones are on door edges, and a few down low, but nothing major. Paint is around 15 years old, and looks great for its age. There are a couple spots were there are a few blisters starting. The front bottom corner of the drivers door, and the rear quarter panel, on the wheel lip. This vehicle is not rusty, it has excellent floors, it if very impressive. We do not salt the roads here in Oregon, and we have cool summers and mild winters. The top is in great shape no cracks, and it does not leak. You can stand up easily inside, I am about 5'11" and it is easy to move around. The glass is all in good shape, no cracks. The bumpers have good chrome on them, the grill is crack free as well. This vehicles exterior looks great, it is what I would call a very good driver condition. The tires are in excellent shape, they have about 98% tread on them. This Van is bigger then it looks in the pictures. It also has a power sliding Door, the switches in the passenger rear quarter, are for the door. You put the key in and it the toggle switch and it opens and closes the door. The other switches were for the wheel chair lift that was in it. You could use those for flood lights or other things you want later. The interior is in good shape for its age. The drivers seat is a 6 way power seat, it lifts up, down, back and forward, and swivels, it is pretty fun to use actually. The dash is in very good shape, no cracks in it, the dog house is in good shape as well. All the gauges work good. It does have AC as I mentioned before, and it does blow Cold, the AC pump makes a little noise, when you have the hood open, but you don't hear it inside the rig, just mentioning it. The radio works as well. It has vintage carpet, which is clean for its age. The rear couch makes into a bed as well. Funny thing about the material on the couch, I just fell in love with this rig when I saw it because of that material. My grandparents, bought a new Hide-a-Bed for their house back in the early 1980's, and it had the same exact material. I slept on that couch many times as a kid. My parents came to visit month ago, and I showed them the van, and opened that door, and my mom just about teared up. Anyways enough with memory lane. The interior panels are in great shape. The wallpaper on the very top of the roof area has shrunk a little, and wavy, not from leaks, just got old and curled up. You will probably do something difference with the interior, it is a great canvas for what ever you want to do with it. You could fit a Quad inside if you wanted. For a vintage van, it smells great inside, not musty, never smoked in. Mechanically, it is in great shape for its age. As I mentioned before, this rig has been well cared for, it has spent much of its life at the Local Ford garage. Not because it really needed to, but because the guy was a fanatic when it came to maintenance. The Carb has just recently been rebuilt. It starts right up, and idles nicely. The engine was replaced back around 2002, not sure if I have the paperwork on that one, but it was replaced at that time by Suburban Ford. The original owner, back in the 1980's switched the hubs out to Warn Hubs. The front Axle was rebuilt 2 times, and the Rear Axle as well, during his ownership. The transmission has never been rebuilt from what I can see, but from the paperwork, it had been serviced many times. The brakes are in good shape. The frontend was rebuilt at some point as well. It does wonder a little bit going down the road, but I think it is pretty typical on old 4X4 rigs of this vintage, it might feel that way to me as well, because I am not used to driving a van. Overall, Mechanically it is in great shape, fly in and drive it home. It is not that often that I can say that, but this car is very road worthy for a long trip, I trust it. That said, it is an vintage rig, but easy to fix if anything were to happen. It is NOT a trailer queen, but is a nice time capsule , that you would not be afraid to drive, but would also want to park it far away from anyone else in a general parking lot. A U C T I O N E N D S May 15th- This Tuesday NIGHT EAST COAST: 11:00 pm WEST COAST: 8:00pm There are over 220 reciepts in this picture, and 3 log books of mileage, repairs etc. This is not a typo, there is $35,000 in Maintence Repairs on all these receipts from 1980 til he sold it around 2005. He changed, the oil in it every 2,000 miles or 2 months, since it was new, that is just the way he was. This gentleman was in a wheel chair, so when something big or small happen, he took it to Suburban Ford, or Les Schwab tire center, and they fixed anything and everything. This is an amazing amount of money, I can't believe it, this guy spent a fortune on this rig to keep it maintained all these years. The reciepts do not include the wheel chair lift, or any of that equipment, just general, rebuilding of the front and rear axles, brakes, tires, shocks, tuneups, engine rebuilds, transmission, etc. It is amazing amount of money to spend on a vehicle, but he loved this Quadravan and it shows. For anyone to spend this much on a vehicle, is a labor of love. I can't show every little chip on this rig, there is a lot of van here, but this about the worse of the chips, the others are very small, a few around door edges and such. Overall when you are around it, you really don't notice to much, it is a 4X4, that you are going to go out into the woods with anyways. On May-12-12 at 08:01:03 PDT, seller added the following information: A good friend pointed this out to me, somehow I forgot in my ad, to put the engine size and transmission, I don't believe I have ever done this before. It is the tried and proven 351W, this is a great motor, very easy to get parts for, and was used for many years up into the 1990's. The transmission is a C6 automatic. Thanks, Jason
