Vehicle Detail
After much thought, I have arrived at a difficult decision and am going to have to sell my 1979 Mercedes-Benz 240D. This car has had two owners - my father and myself. As much as I would love to keep it, the standard maintenance costs add up over time and I really cannot afford to keep this as a 'toy.' History "Old Blue" was purchased from Hollywood Mercedes-Benz and lived for the next 15 years or so in Southern California. After that, he spent 13 years in Pennsylvania, but rarely ventured out of the garage once the snow fell, avoiding the salt and ice on the roads. Old Blue the moved on and spent the next six years in Dallas, where he was given a rebuilt engine at about 183,000 miles after his initial engine threw a rod. The rebuilt engine had about 40,000 miles on it at the time, and now has about 50k on it total. (This work was done at European Motor Cars in Ft. Worth, Texas.) For the past three years Old Blue has lived near DC, where he has had a cover on him while parked outside. Apart from these past few years, he has spent every night in the garage. This car has very, very minimal rust on it. There are a few small circles of rust, about one or two millimeters wide and thats all along the bottom of the body. Old Blue has been well taken care of for the past 34 years as it has been 'part of the family.' The car runs great and fires right up, first time, every time. On the highway, Old Blue provides a nice steady ride, cruising at 70mph with relative ease. The Diesel engine really hums and gives you that good sound. This car is an automatic transmission. Exterior is sky blue with a navy blue interior and the standard MB-Tex vinyl seating. There are no rips or tears in any of the seats, except for a small 1.5 inch or so split in the seam on the drivers seat, near the door. The dash has two slight cracks in it, which is common to this model, but better than most at this age. I believe a block heater has been installed as well to warm the engine on those cold winter mornings. Heat and A/C run great. This car has never been in an accident or fender bender of any kind. There are not dents or bumps anywhere on the body of the vehicle. If you are looking for a solid daily driver with some real timeless fashion, Old Blue is the car for you. What Else? Brand new tires, less than 1,000 miles on themCar cover, about a year old. I will also throw in the sun shade as well!Extra matching hubcap (light blue ones are not the easiest to find)New brake pads were installed in the past yearOriginal tire jack kit included.Full size spare (about 6 years old)Original Becker Europa stereo which has been modified and given an Auxiliary input to plug in your iPod.Engine mounts may be due soon. Rear window rubber seal may need replacement at some point.Valve adjustment has been completed within the past 5,000 milesHigh mileage badge from MB on the grill (slightly faded color) The car is listed with 196,000 miles but has about 195,727 right now. I put 196k because I may take it for one more good drive before parting with it! Local pickup of course available, but I will help with shipping if needed; buyer will pay shipping costs.
