Vehicle Detail

About Me 1982 Pontiac Trans Am San Jose, CA 95110 Time in San Jose Vehicle Details Year: 1982 Make: Pontiac Model: Trans Am Mileage: 93,000 Transmission: Automatic Engine: 305 Exterior Color:Black Interior Color: Black Title: Clear Description 1982 was a year that offered us new technology; It was the year the first CD player was sold to the public, TIME magazine recognized the computer as "Man Of The Year", and General Motors brought us the new generation of Pontiac Firebirds with "Cross-Fire Injection" "The LU5 remains and important piece of GM's slowly re-emerging performance puzzle. Those who bastardize its Cross-Fire Injection moniker, dismissing it as "Cease-Fire Injection" to underline its genteel performance properties, aren't looking at the bigger picture. The debilitating effects of back-to-back gas crises, newly instated federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy regulations, and the ever-tightening emissions rules, squeezed GM's engineers from both ends; throw in having to learn how to use computers on top of everything else, and it's a miracle the thing runs at all" The above passage was reprinted from Hemming's Motor News, 1/10. This Trans Am was purchased new at Larry Hopkins Pontiac in Sunnyvale, CA. It's remained in the Bay Area since then. There is no rust, pits, or scale anywhere top or bottom. It's been repainted once, from the accent stripes up, however the stripes and lower body remain original. The paint is shiny, and is very nice from an everyday driver, but it's not perfect or show worthy. The interior is still original with exception of the slip covers installed of the original PMD bucket seats. The factory covers had deteriorated in the sun. It will need a new set of reproduction seat covers. The dash pad does have some crack as well. Everything else looks very good for a 30 year old car. All the dash gauges and accessories are in working order, as is the factory AM/FM Cassette player. The air conditioning does turn on, but does not get very cold. The driver's lower door hinge is worn, and makes a noise when the doors opened or closed. The 305 engine runs well and had been reasonably maintained over the years. It doesn't use any oil and still provides decent power. The automatic transmission shifts good, and overall the car drives great. The suspension is a little stiffer then what I've been used to driving though. The original owner did not care for the "bowling ball" styled wheels that came on it from the factory, and swapped them for the later style wheels you see here. The tires still have good tread depth, but are a little old. It's a unique car with many engineering firsts. Build a Knight Rider replica out of it if you must, but over the next 10 years an original '82 Trans Am will no doubt increase in value.
