I'm selling my 2002 BMW 525i. The car runs 100% perfect. I have replaced $3000 just in parts recently! I have 4 cars right now and I only need 2, so I'm selling my BMW and another vehicle. 109,700 miles Sports Package. Entirely new coolant system and entirely new suspension and many more new parts!! 3 of the most common issues with the E39 5 series is that the front thrust arm bushing go bad at roughly 60,000 miles. This creates sloppy loose steering and leads to a shimmy at high speed braking. I replaced the thrust arm bushings with Mahl HD solid bushings which last well over 100,000 miles. This BMW handles brand new with all of the suspension replaced from front to back. Most of the other 5 series for sale don't have replaced steering which will end up costing thousands to have it done. The 2nd most common issue with the E39 6 cylinder engines is the dual vanos seals go bad after only 40,000 miles! This is a very labor intensive repair which takes roughly 5 to 6 hours to do. If the vanos seals have never been repaired the engine will run sluggish and will have loss of power and torque. I replaced the VANOS seals in my BMW with new improved seals which restored how the engine should properly feel and will last the lifetime of the car. The original VANOS seals from the factory used a poor rubber design which was not capable of withstanding heat and oil penetration over the lifetime of the car. The 3rd most common issue with the E39 5 Series is that the entire cooling system is made of plastic. The parts made of plastic include the radiator, water pump, coolant expansion tank, and upper/lower radiator hose ends. The life expectancy of these components last approx 90,000 to 100,000 miles. If these items are not replaced the cooling system will fail which will leave you stranded on the side of the road and most likely you will have overheated your engine causing a blown head gasket and warped cylinder head. I have replaced my entire cooling system from radiator, water pump with metal impeller, upper/lower radiator hoses, new temp sensor, fan clutch, and expansion tank!! AC blows ice cold. The transmission shifts perfectly, the engine runs perfect. I give the interior a 9 out of 10 and the exterior an 8.5 out of 10. The radio digital display pixels are not 100% (see pic). All 4 door handles have the clear coat coming off. The paint on the hood is beginning to fade a little bit. I encourage you to go look at other BMWs and then come look at mine. You will soon find out all the other BMWs you look at won't have all these replaced parts that wear out on these cars. You will appreciate all of the preventative maintenance I have done on my BMW.
