Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is my near mint condition 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia Edition with full camper set-up. One (1) family owner for 25 years. The original owner bought it new. He was a retired Naval Officer who is now in his 80's. Last year he decided to leave it to a family member, who knew nothing about it. I acquired the vehicle when I saw how original unmolested and ready for travel it was. The nephew was eager to part with it and take money instead. The original owner took extremely good care of the Camper and it was garaged most of its life unless it was on the road. But overall the vehicle is in incredible condition. The interior is incredible. Almost perfect! It does have a little sun damage to the front dash, handles and back side of mirror. But the camping components, cushions, seats and flooring look almost new! It is hard to believe this vehicle is over 25 years old. I had big plans for the Westy long term, but many times in life, GOD is laughing at your plans, so I have to part with the Westy for now. I spent a considerable amount of time going through the van and addressing a few issues. Mechanically the Westy is solid. NO RUST!! Dry Texas Climate has been good to the body. All original paint. No collision damage!! The mileage is accurate (73k) and the odo works. I have taken lots of undercarriage pics. You see a lot of old cosmoline coating, but ZERO RUST. The bushings are good. I installed new rear shocks, left rear drive axle, new master cylinder, new plugs, cap, wires and rotor. I also installed a new fuel tank sending unit so you know how much fuel you have ;-) It starts right up and idles smoothly. Transmissions shifts all gears and cruises down the freeway at 70mph no problem. A/C Blows ice cold - note I have added 134 Freon (without adapters - can go either way still) and it may have a front seal leak on compressor. It has not leaked out and I see no dye, but I thought I heard something last time I used it. My buy it now price will include a brand new Compressor. The condensor/Aux fan works as it should and it blows cold! Tires are like new - all Michelins. The tread still has the little nubbies. They have been sitting for a bit and have some drying cracks, but are rolling smooth and supple. I am not sure I would keep them on for a long journey, but most people want to upgrade to 15's so I chose not to put tires on a new owner may not want. The old guy had pinched the tent top the last time he had it up, so I installed a brand new 3 window top with ventilation screens. As well as a new GOWesty roof seals. It has the privacy curtain up front and a perfect rear ventilation screen. I took lots of pictures for your benefit and to see everything in action. The great thing about these little guys, is you can make it your own pretty easily, but the important and expensive stuff has been done. Currently has propane, but not sure of quantity. All other tanks and lines drained. The faucet pump is working. I have only used fridge on shore power setting. I installed a new Bosch Battery and was going to go with the GoWesty Solar kit with a second battery, but can not spend the money now. The little gauge on the stove still works for battery level and water level - tank is dry though for storage. A few negatives are the window trim - chrome - has shrunk and discolored, but they all seem to do that?? Has a minor little drip at rear main seal. Leaves a few dables about the size of a quarter after driving hard. Otherwise dry. Valve covers are dry. As I said earlier some of the front door interior handles and grabs are discolored and a little brittle. The rear view mirror is brittle. Two of the bumper end caps are split. It had aftermarket cruise control added. But the cable broke and it is not worth fixing. If you want cruise, buy a new aftermarket kit. I just had to draw the line on what bothered me and what I wanted to fix. I installed new window cranks from GoWesty. The window tint is bad in a few spots, but overall good enough for me. The negatives are very few, but it is 25 years old and if you know these vehicles, the have a little character ;-) I am not a Westy expert, so I have been reading GoWesty Blogs and the Westfalia.Org websites to answer to any questions I had about my Westy. I do have some service manuals (online) and the original owners manual. I have one set of keys for everything. This is the real deal. Well sorted. Nearly perfect, especially when you consider age and mileage - ultra low mileage of just over 73k!! I have spent considerable money on the unit and I am looking just to get back my investment and a little labor for my time and efforts. It is Ready for your Subie conversion or big tire conversion. Perfect canvas to build ultimate Westy. Call to discuss. Looking for it to go to a good home.
