Vehicle Detail
1974 Volkswagen Westfalia "Westy" Campmobile Pop-top Camper Bus Original Brilliant Orange Paint from factory - never repainted inside or out Kudos to Volkswagen for using such durable paint and to the prior owner for not ruining it. People will think you have repainted your Bus, but this camper is still in its original paint. It has never been repainted. Sure there are a few chips and scrapes, but anyway we all have those. There is real gloss to the paint - so much so that most people at first glance will think it has had a respray. The nice thing about a car in its original first paint job from the factory is that you know how solid it is. For example, there is no body filler on this bus, not an ounce. You don't have to wonder what it is like under the shiny paint, because there is nothing hidden. No body problems from prior repairs to show up. Everyone can sand fill and repaint a bus, but how many can show off paint that is almost 40 years old? You can with this survivor bus! Well you don't have to just look good from the sidelines, this bus is a driver. About 10,000 miles ago it had major engine work from what I understand is a 2000cc engine - uprated from original. However, it has been sitting more than driving. My mechanic just serviced it last month with a compression check, carb adjust, oil & filter change, valve adjust, plugs, fuel filter, and rear brake adjust. He said it is in good shape and needs to be driven. So I put new shoes (tires) on it and thought it would be ready for spring, but something in life came up and now it is for sale. It will be hard to replace at any cost. The interior has a sink, fridge, cabinet, seat that fold-out into a bed (sleeps two), portable stool/jump seat, pop top with an upper birth that sleeps two under the tent. The nice thing about being in a dry climate is that things don't rust however the tent is dry and cracking, so it needs to be replaced. A friend has a good replacement tent and I will include it in the sale. The upholstery is the original plaid orange Westfalia fabric and it has also held up well. There is some fading and a few small stains, but it is extremely presentable. Cabinets are pretty good with a few corners that have loose edging or a little laminate delamination. And those cabinet latches and handles. I would order a couple of new ones if I were keeping it. Curtains and rods are there and functional - expect to see fading, but I guess you could re-dye the curtains. I also have the front privacy screen (green) that covers the windshield and front windows for a more intimate interior. There is also an original rear mosquito net so you can have the rear hatch open for ventilation, but still keep the bugs out. I took the front floor mat out so you could see the condition of the floors underneath. I know that a most VWs give you a view of the floor through the floorboard, but this bus doesn't even have a pinhole. It is that solid and rust free. There is no stove, however I've included a little vintage single burner camp stove for your morning brew. The bus runs and drives through all four gears. It stops and is nice to drive. It is still an older vehicle and needs a few things. I just changed the front windshield seal.and the rear window seal should also be replaced. I need to replace the front headlight and will just replace them both or at least include two new headlights if I get busy. Most likely I will change them both (recommended to change in pairs) this weekend. Wipers work well. Ignition has a kill switch installed by previous owner. Emergency flasher is temperamental. If I have time I'll look into it. Replaced the battery recently - again needs to be driven more. All doors work well, including the slider. The lock cylinder is broken on the passenger front door. I replaced the tires and they are brand new. Again I'm not really driving it so you'll probably get it with the nubs still on it. My mechanic said brakes are good. Includes jack and spare tire on rim to match the 4 new ones on the car mounted on the front (unless I add a picture later - not shown in pictures.) So there you have it. A chance to get a really solid camper bus that is complete. Again as mentioned I will include a good replacement tent and a nice new spare not shown in photos, but I'll try to get a picture. Pick it up in person or I will help your shipper get it to you. Don't miss this chance to make this great VW your own. Make it a good home. On Mar-30-12 at 10:11:21 PDT, seller added the following information: Forgot to mention the bus does have a trailer hitch, but you will have to supply your own ball. No radio and antenna mast is broken, but a replacement is only $15. I guess I should include the obvious seller's disclaimer. That the vehicle is sold where it is, FOB Boise Idaho Metro area, and as is. You are welcome to come drive it prior to bidding. Good luck. On Mar-31-12 at 16:45:06 PDT, seller added the following information: Today I replaced both front headlights with new ones as I promised. They work on high and low beams and look great. Noticed the right rear side running light lense has fallen off, but the light still illuminates. Taillights and other running lights also working. Could not check reverse lights on my own in daytime and forgot to check turn signals. Thanks.
